We are currently looking for a Director, Work to Zeroto join us in our mission to save lives and prevent injuries.
Position Highlights: Directs the Work to Zero program, driving strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, research, and knowledge dissemination efforts with a commitment to continuous improvement and excellence. Serves as the primary authority and thought leader on workplace safety technology for the National Safety Council. Leads and challenges the Work to Zero team, fostering a high-performance culture that pushes boundaries, questions assumptions, and strives for the highest standards of quality, technical accuracy, and innovation. Ensures that all workplace products, service offerings, and marketing communications reflect rigor, consistency, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Continuously seeks to elevate and enhance the Work to Zero work plan, identifying opportunities for innovation and greater impact. Collaborates cross-functionally (marketing, comms, training, consulting, convening, operations, finance) to translate program and product assets into value-added outputs, establish rigorous metrics and standards, and ensure programs meet and exceed their goals. Additionally, the Director, Work to Zero may serve as an expert resource on broader workplace safety issues aligned with the National Safety Council’s mission and vision.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic Leadership and Direction (55%)
Responsible for leadership, day to day management and strategic oversight for the NSC Work to Zero program in three main areas; research technologies that have the greatest potential to eliminate workplace deaths, knowledge dissemination to NSC membershipand the safety profession and stakeholder engagement.
Direct Work to Zero staff on major projects, including development of research whitepapers, stakeholder engagement, communication and marketing, and event conceptsand content.
Lead and guide an Advisory Committee comprised of internal and external stakeholders, including academics, researchers, solution providers, EHS professionals, and othersaimed at helping the National Safety Council address causes of death and injury on thejob through technology.
Manage, steward, and grow Work to Zero funding in collaboration with the NSCDevelopment department and ensure that Work to Zero overall strategic objectives areachieved.
Oversee the Work to Zero budget and manage to the level of funding.
Supervise the Work to Zero program management staff.
Technical Expertise (25%)
Provide technical expertise and conceptual and practical knowledge around the topic of technology, innovation, and digital transformation in environmental, health, and safety for the purpose of advancing the Work to Zero mission of eliminating death in the workplace.
Ensure content produced by the Work to Zero initiative is not only technically accuratebut representative of good practice. Review and edit Work to Zero materials per theproject plan, with some direct writing responsibility on key pieces.
Provide additional technical expertise to National Safety Council staff across numerous departments (Membership, Safety Education & Training, Campbell Institute, etc.) on issues related to workplace safety.
Serve as NSC’s EHS Committee Chair, guiding the organizational activities in promoting employee safety around the workplace and at home.
Stakeholder Engagement (20%)
Engage safety professionals, academics, researchers, media, conference audiences, and other stakeholders on the Work to Zero initiative. Promote the mission and vision ofthe initiative in a confident and consistent manner via media appearances, interviews,listening sessions, focus groups, and conference speaking roles in addition to otheractivities.
Serve as key contact for internal and external stakeholders on Work to Zero, includingthe NSC Executive Team, prepare reports and presentations, and communicate with keystakeholders on a regular and seamless basis.
We’re Looking for Someone with:
Bachelor’s degree in safety, business, technology, or a related discipline required
Master’s degree related to the above disciplines preferred.
12 years of working experience in the environmental, health, safety, and/or sustainabilityfield, with progressive responsibility. Experience as the leader of an organization’s EHSor sustainability group/department preferred.
5 years of working experience (concurrent with above) leading technology or digital transformation projects in EHS/sustainability, including software, data/analytics, wearables, sensors, automation, additive manufacturing, VR/AR, or other disruptivetechnologies.
Experience in the delivery of information/communication to large audiences as well as high-level stakeholders, including boards, conference attendees, etc.
Experience in research, development and delivery preferred.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
This is a remote position.
Salary - $120,000
