Job description

1021 is a cultural intelligence and curation studio helping clients navigate cultural shifts and consumer behaviors. Our work spans digital platforms, entertainment, media, and brand strategy. We blend qualitative insights with data analysis to provide nuanced, actionable recommendations for our partners.

We are looking for our first highly proactive, self-starting Senior Data Strategist to expand 1021’s data capabilities across client work and internal initiatives. This role goes beyond reporting—it’s about taking the initiative to refine methodologies, uncover opportunities, and shape how 1021 applies data to trend forecasting, content performance, and strategic decision-making.

This person will work with both client-provided proprietary data (e.g., content performance, audience insights, trend signals) and 1021’s own internal data toolkit (social listening, public datasets, benchmarking, proprietary trend scoring models, etc.). They will be instrumental in refining 1021’s methodologies for trend identification, cultural insights, and performance measurement while ensuring insights are actionable across teams.

What Success Looks Like

  • Stronger, more data-backed insights are embedded into both client work and 1021’s own research.
  • 1021’s internal data capabilities expand, creating unique, proprietary intelligence that differentiates us.
  • Trend identification, content analytics, and performance tracking improve, leading to deeper insights.
  • Data methodologies are standardized, making analysis more efficient and scalable.
  • 1021’s marketing and performance analytics become more sophisticated, improving our strategic positioning.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of data organization, reporting, and dashboarding, ensuring consistency and reliability.
  • Maintain and refine 1021’s data assets, tools, and performance tracking methods.
  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot issues in inherited data tools, improving functionality and efficiency.
  • Actively explore and identify key trends, audience behaviors, and content performance drivers.
  • Create compelling data visualizations and narratives to communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure teams can access, interpret, and apply data effectively.
  • Take the lead on training and upskilling teams in analytics tools, data visualization, and storytelling.
  • Proactively refine and evolve trend-scoring models, benchmarking tools, and forecasting methodologies.
  • Develop scalable frameworks for applying data across 1021’s services.
  • Take initiative in developing new, forward-thinking applications of data intelligence across client projects and internal research.
  • Explore emerging tools and methods to enhance 1021’s research and insights.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a related field; advanced degree a plus
  • 6+ years of experience in data analysis, insights, or strategy roles.
  • Experience with trend analysis, content analytics, and social media performance tracking.
  • Proven ability to develop and refine data methodologies (e.g., trend scoring, benchmarking).
  • Strong data visualization skills (Looker, Tableau, Google Data Studio, etc.).
  • SQL proficiency for querying and analyzing large data sets.
  • Strategic mindset, with experience applying data insights to content, marketing, and cultural analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience presenting insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Training, upskilling, and enabling teams to interpret and apply data insights effectively.
  • A passion for cultural trends, media consumption habits, and digital behaviors.

Preferred Qualifications
