Review and decision complex, mortgage transactions for ultra-high net worth and high net worth applications. Mentor more junior underwriting staff related to ultra- high net worth credit analysis.
Under minimal supervision, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through formal education and/or work-related experience to act as the lead underwriter of high net worth and ultra-high net worth residential lending applications. Ensures excellent client service is provided, a profitable loan is originated, and all standard underwriting guidelines are met. Analyzes complex, high-value situations or problems to which there are several alternative approaches. Devises innovative methods and makes relatively complex decisions within established policy using independent judgment. Works with a high level of autonomy and is accountable for ensuring the quality and reliability of work performed.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Underwrites credit package and makes loan decisions for high net worth and ultra high net worth residential lending applications up to the loan amount authority established by the Raymond James Bank Board of Directors.
Underwrites credit package and prepares recommendations for presentation to Loan Committee.
Ensures compliance with Raymond James Bank, state, federal and (if applicable) agency and investor guidelines.
Interact with financial advisors, clients, and CPAs, and banking consultants regarding residential mortgage loan transactions, their deal structures and documentation requirements.
Reviews and analyzes real estate appraisals for acceptance in connection with residential loan transactions.
Maintains knowledge of Raymond James Bank loan programs.
Collaborate with Mortgage Consultants regarding deal structure recommendations to high-net-worth clients. Works to identify alternatives, in order to exceed expectations
Establishes strong relationships and gains the trust of financial advisors, mortgage consultants, banking consultants and their high-net-worth clients.
Interacts professionally with clients, associates, and financial advisors to provide professional client service upholding the Service 1st philosophy.
Coordinates the approval of underwriting conditions/exceptions. Reviews the file prior to closing.
Analyzes tax returns, financial statements, and reviews of title commitments.
Works directly with Lending Manager(s) while exercising independent judgement of work functions.
Reviews and analyzes procedures for more efficient and cost-effective ways of handling the workflow.
Identifies appropriate process improvements and collaborates with management on implementation and communication. Also communicates department issues to management.
Adheres to policies as established by management.
Performs day-to-day monitoring of underwriting file workflow while maintaining excellent relationships with clients, financial advisors, and partners including, sales, processing, support staff and vendors in order to exceed expectations.
May assist with onboarding new associates and oversee an efficient and knowledgeable staff through coaching, mentoring, and personal leadership.
Keeps management apprised of developments as they relate to workflow and special projects. Communicates and coordinates changes in policy and procedures that affect other partners/departments.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of
Raymond James Bank underwriting guidelines, national multi-state federal and state lending laws, and portfolio residential lending; creditor financial analysis techniques.
Advanced knowledge of self-employed income analysis.
The appraisal, credit report, income, title, and insurance documentation processes.
Unique vestings such as irrevocable, trust and property in corporate entities.
Prior credit authority delegation preferred.
Commercial credit experience preferred.
Principles, practices, concepts and procedures of underwriting, mortgages, banking and financial markets and products.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration with a minimum of:
15 years mortgage lending
6 years high net worth mortgage lending
3 years ultra-high net worth mortgage lending
OR ~
An equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources.
Licenses/Certifications
Completion of formal credit training preferred.
