Job description

We are seeking a strategic, execution-oriented leader to join us as Chief of Staff to the CEO at Apartment List. In this role, you will serve as a force multiplier for the CEO—driving operational excellence, cross-functional execution, and strategic problem-solving. You will tackle the company’s most pressing challenges, taking ownership of high-impact projects that accelerate growth, improve efficiency, and enhance decision-making.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, has a strong bias for action, and can quickly diagnose challenges, develop solutions, and drive execution across teams. If you are a versatile operator who can flex between strategy and hands-on execution, we invite you to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solve the Biggest Problems – Identify, prioritize, and execute on critical business challenges—whether it's improving internal processes, optimizing key business metrics, or launching new initiatives.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Execution – Partner with leaders across Product, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to ensure alignment and execution on the company’s highest priorities.
  • Lead Special Projects – Take ownership of high-stakes initiatives that don’t neatly fit into any one department but are crucial to the company's success.
  • Operational Cadence & Business Planning – Design and manage key planning processes, ensuring the CEO and executive team operate with focus, efficiency, and impact.
  • Decision Enablement & Problem-Solving – Conduct analysis, synthesize insights, and provide data-driven recommendations to support executive decision-making.
  • CEO Proxy & Executive Alignment – Act as an extension of the CEO, ensuring clarity, focus, and accountability at all levels of the organization.
  • Process Improvement & Scale – Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, designing and implementing scalable solutions that improve how the business operates.
  • Communication & Influence – Craft clear, concise narratives to align stakeholders, drive action, and reinforce strategic priorities.

Key Qualifications & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Operations, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in business operations, consulting, corporate strategy, or a Chief of Staff-type role in a fast-growing company.
  • Proven track record of leading strategic projects, solving complex problems, and driving execution across functions.
  • Highly analytical, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down ambiguous challenges.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to move seamlessly between strategy and execution, adapting to changing business needs.
  • Experience improving processes, operating rhythms, and business performance.
  • Thrives in ambiguity—excels at defining and executing projects with limited structure or precedent.
