Position Title: Underwriting Coordinator

Reports To: Manager, Underwriting

Department: Individual Underwriting

Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: You will work from your home office 100% of the time. You may be required to be in-person at our office in Waterloo, ON or another assigned location within the Waterloo Region, on an as needed basis. Sales related roles may be required to travel based on the assignment.

The Opportunity: Equitable is hiring! We are looking for an Underwriting Coordinator to join our Individual Underwriting team.

The Underwriting Coordinator is responsible for consolidating detailed medical evidence and managing data and reporting related to facultative insurance shopping. This role involves close collaboration with the Underwriting team to draft letters, ensure compliance with reinsurance contracts, and prepare and organize medical evidence for assessing morbidity and mortality for Life and Living Benefits insurance.

Key responsibilities include allocating and monitoring workflows to identify opportunities for streamlining underwriting processes and assisting underwriting management with various operational initiatives.

What you will be doing:

  • Ability to prepare and support the delivery of FAC Cession reporting and assembling of evidence that is material to reinsurance contracts
  • Ability to analyze and quickly understand the stage of the underwriting cycle to organize and coordinate medical and financial evidence
  • Responsible for reviewing, investigating and resolving issues relating to medical and financial evidence used in both manual and auto underwriting processes
  • Ability to allocate work and monitor workloads and identify opportunities to streamline underwriting workflows
  • Proactive management of data and evidence related to morbidity and mortality assessments
  • Provide reporting to Management relating to volumes, cycle times, and other required metrics.
  • Other tasks as assigned/required
  • Contributes to a positive environment through teamwork and a spirit of innovation, continuous improvement and professional development
  • Support projects and ad-hoc requests as needed
  • Maintenance of appropriate process documentation
  • Demonstrate expertise in an autonomously processing various types of requests and maintaining high standards of productivity and quality

What you will bring:

  • Knowledge of Individual and Critical Illness underwriting processes and procedures with understanding of medical terminology
  • Familiar with underwriting innovation tools and technology
  • Proven track record identifying barriers to productivity and problem-solving to optimize workflows
  • Excellent organizational skills with absolute attention to detail
  • Outstanding communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Strong problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with minimal supervision
  • A minimum of 3 years working within an underwriting team coordinating evidence for mortality and morbidity assessments
