Job description

The Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for managing and overseeing all financial, facility, and transportation operations at 5280 High School. This person will advise the Executive Director, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors on the financial, operational, and budget matters of the school while working collaboratively with staff to ensure the finances are managed and maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Job responsibilities include working collaboratively to manage all finance functions involved with bookkeeping, accounting, budgeting, grants management, reports and requests for funds, payroll, purchasing, risk management, financial transparency, and facilities support. Acts as the liaison with the Board’s Finance Committee, executive team and the Board of Directors. Responsible for monthly reports both internally and to our community partners including Denver Public Schools and others, in support of financial reporting and transparency. Assists with long and short-range budgeting and financial planning, advises on special projects, and provides analyses to support board and executive decision making. This position will report directly to the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Finance and Accounting

  • Oversee and work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Executive Leadership Team, and

the Board of Directors to oversee all financial processes including bookkeeping, financial

reporting, financial audit, banking, tax filing, general ledger, accounts/grants receivable,

accounts payable, payroll, and purchasing.

  • Direct the preparation of the annual budget while maintaining current knowledge of state and

federal laws governing the control and distribution of public-school finances and other sources

of finance.

  • Maintain constant awareness of the school’s financial position and act to prevent possible

issues.

  • Oversee and work collaboratively with audit and internal control functions.

  • Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial and budget performance on a monthly,

quarterly, and annual basis.

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and advise on short-term and long-term

financial objectives and policies.

  • Participate in planning, development and implementation of budgets, including debt

management, and long-range facilities management.

  • Manage banking and financial relationships.

  • Provide effective management of the assets of the school by promoting internal controls and

ensuring proper insurance coverage.

  • Serve as a liaison/advisor to the Board of Trustee Finance Committee.

  • Create and deliver monthly or periodic financial reports insuring financial accountability and transparency.

  • Support school leadership on issues related to facilities, building purchases, leases, and repairs.

  • Support Human Resources functions including but not limited to staff evaluation, records

retention, meeting state and federal employment laws, payroll, other negotiations as needed.

  • Maintain HR Files for personnel including records retention for certification, licensure,

background checks

  • Manage recruitment and retention processes

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary commensurate with experience: $95,000-$110,000 / year

This position roughly follows the school-year calendar and includes approximately three weeks of summer vacation and four weeks total of school holidays and vacation.
