POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Application Management and Support (AMS), Electronic Health Record (EHR) Implementation Specialist works in conjunction with the leadership of AMS to oversee, analyze, design, implement and evaluate clinical health information technology that enhances health outcomes and improves patient care.  As part of a team, this position will lead core application projects, including clinical and physician documentation, medication reconciliation, inventory management, revenue cycle, formularies, preference cards, case costing and patient engagement, and other ancillaries. 

This professional collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of clinical information systems, enhancing healthcare data management and streamlining clinical workflows. This role is also responsible for analyzing current clinical workflows against the future workflow staying in line with the AMSURG Solution Standard, policies, compliance, architectural and security requirements.  Use vendor-supplied design and configuration tools and other software configuration and development tools to create and/or modify components to meet AMSURG standard.

This professional will keep current with healthcare industry standards, best practices, regulatory changes, emerging technologies and interact with end-users, operations, clinical partners, supply chain and vendors.  Additionally, this position assists the Applications and Data teams to ensure that the utilization of the application allows for data ingestion to feed case costing and profitability reporting for operations leadership. Interacts with end-users, operations, and clinical partners, and other personnel as needed.

Work Schedule: Our Insight Practice Management Implementation Specialist role is offered on a Remote First basis, allowing the candidate to be based anywhere in the country. Must be available to travel approximately 25-50% for workflow discovery site visits, training and/or go live support.  The length of individual trips will vary depending upon project needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Report directly to the Sr. Director of EHR Implementations and Optimization (AMS).
  • Perform discovery visits to conduct comprehensive assessments of clinical and revenue cycle workflows, recommending improvements to ensure the ASC is meeting the Corporate AMSURG Solution standards and CMS regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in planning, design, development and deployment of new application modules and enhancements to existing applications, understanding that the recommendations and decisions made about the rollout of the application features and functions can have serious and long-term impact on the workflows, functions and efficiencies of the application and its impact on safe and effective patient care.
  • Collaborate with vendors, consultants, and team members to assist in configuring clinical and billing system parameters to ensure configuration meets and/or exceeds AMSURG Solution standards as identified by Operations leadership.
  • Configure and build Clinical/Inventory dictionaries, including specialty and provider-specific preference cards and the medication formulary.
  • Map Clinical/Inventory supplies to correct preference cards to ensure accurate usage tracking.
  • Assist in validating the Corporate AMSURG Solution build and make optimization and workflow recommendations.
  • Engage Supply Chain for Clinical/Inventory Vendor implementations.
  • Meet with the Supply Chain team regularly for alignment on Inventory implementations to identify kickoff calls and go-live dates.
  • Partner with Supply Chain to identify and resolve discrepancies/variances or errors in data,
  • Partner with Operations and other departments to identify trends and benchmarking for clinical and billing areas.
  • Monitor the inventory reconciliation module to ensure compliance with clinical and inventory management documentation procedures. Validate case costing data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Utilize expertise and skills to serve as one of the main contacts and application subject matter experts for physician and clinical staff during the implementation process, onsite go-live support and post implementation phase including optimization moving forward.
  • Create, utilize, and deliver training curriculum for physicians and clinical staff, at the elbow and virtually, as required insuring that the staff is comfortable and fluent in the technical procedures and internal practices required for appropriate use of care, billing, and coding as well as clinical decision making and complexity.
  • Facilitate with the vendor(s) comprehensive training sessions for all levels of users, including front office staff, billers, surgeons, nurses, administrators, and ancillary staff ensuring they understand the system functionality and features.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans outlining tasks, resource needs, deadlines, and milestones to facilitate a successful implementation of healthcare information technology application.
  • Communicate regularly with project stakeholders and upper-level management status updates, trends, and successes to ensure alignment with corporate initiatives and meeting project goals.
  • Perform routine audits and quality assessments to verify that the center utilizes the implemented system effectively.
  • Act on and take the initiative to communicate issues uncovered during discovery, training or implementation and recommend practical solutions and short-term workarounds to ease the anxieties and stresses of full product rollouts, change management processes and long-term strategies.
  • Prioritize enhancements based on their impact and urgency.
  • Attend virtual billing and clinical end-user training sessions to become familiar with all workflows.
  • During go-live, provide hands-on support to billing and clinical staff in the front office and clinical areas.
  • Continue offering remote support for 1-2 weeks after Go-Live to resolve any issues and ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain HIPAA standards and confidentiality of protected health information.
  • Assists Service Desk and User Satisfaction personnel with clinical application related support issues.
  • Work with various vendors for issue resolution.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Perform other assigned duties and special projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 to 8+ years of experience with clinical applications and the software development life cycle.
  • Excellent English communication and customer relationship skills (verbal/written).

  • Able to work well under pressure and communicate appropriately, even when under stress or duress.

  • Superior analytical and creative problem-solving capabilities; able to research and apply knowledge effectively.
  • Display a positive attitude and strong team spirit.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and 10+ years in the Healthcare industry.
  • 5+ years required direct use and/or implementation experience with clinical healthcare technology applications, including workflow analysis and training.
  • 2+ years of experience in revenue cycle management.
  • Thorough understanding of patient clinical workflows in an ambulatory surgery center and/or medical practice is desired; a broad scope of medical specialty experience in clinical settings is a plus.
  • RN preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in programming and clinical application reporting tools.
  • Strong understanding of modern EMR’s and accompanying products/integrations/applications.
  • Able to utilize Microsoft Suite products confidently, i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, OneNote, Outlook, Visio, etc.
  • Familiarity with advanced data analytics tools and methodologies for monitoring system performance and identifying areas for improvement.
