Overview:

Veeco is a leading provider of innovative semiconductor processing equipment, currently undergoing an exciting strategic pivot to capture significant opportunities within the Tier 1 semiconductor market. We seek a highly experienced and motivated Senior Director, Supplier Technical Development, to play a foundational role in a new technical group focused on critical commodities. This is a unique opportunity to pioneer Veeco’s approach to meeting the demanding expectations of Tier 1 semiconductor customers, directly contributing to our growth and success in this dynamic market. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Global Operations and with a focused, cross-functional team consisting of a supplier quality engineer and a commodity manager, you will develop key commodities critical to the success of Veeco’s vast product portfolio. Under your leadership, your new team is tasked with developing electrostatic chucks (ESCs), heated pedestals, and high-performance ceramics, and you will partner with design engineering to create an agile and fully empowered development team.

Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the development and execution of a comprehensive supplier technical development strategy aimed at enhancing supplier capabilities across Veeco’s diverse technology portfolio, with an immediate focus on electrostatic chuck (ESC) technologies.
  • Establish and champion robust technical management systems and processes for critical suppliers, ensuring strict adherence to Tier 1 semiconductor customer standards for quality, reliability, and cutting-edge performance.
  • Provide expert technical leadership and guidance to external suppliers throughout the entire lifecycle, from initial design and development to advanced manufacturing and seamless integration into Veeco’s state-of-the-art semiconductor wafer processing equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Manufacturing Operations to meticulously define specific technical requirements, performance benchmarks, and stringent quality standards for critical components.
  • Develop the next leaders in advanced manufacturing. The team will provide a unique, focused environment for quickly ramping up our capabilities.
  • Develop and rigorously execute supplier quality enhancement initiatives, conduct thorough supplier audits against demanding semiconductor industry benchmarks, implement closed-loop corrective action systems, and generate insightful quality metrics and comprehensive reports to inform and strengthen the supplier management program.
  • Ensure unwavering supplier adherence to copy-exact principles and stringent change control expectations through the implementation and rigorous execution of well-defined processes.

Qualifications:

A PhD in Materials Science and at least 15 years of related engineering, manufacturing, and technical supply chain development experience are required. A minimum of 7 years of direct and relevant experience in the design, manufacturing, supply chain, and application of ESCs for semiconductor process equipment is also required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully developing and delivering high-performance ESCs to demanding Tier 1 semiconductor customers.
  • Proven expertise in effectively leading and technically guiding external suppliers in the intricate development of ESCs and other mission-critical components is crucial.
  • Deep and comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in electrostatic chuck design principles, advanced manufacturing methodologies, complex supply chain dynamics, and critical application requirements within semiconductor wafer processing.
  • Extensive understanding of material science, advanced thin-film coatings, and high-performance ceramics directly relevant to the design and optimal performance of ESCs and other advanced materials.
  • Extensive experience implementing Statistical process control (SPC) to achieve predictable results in a manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise with troubleshooting High Vacuum Process Equipment (commonly used in semiconductor manufacturing) and associated Best Known Methods for achieving performance objectives.
  • Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively across diverse cross-functional teams and cultivate strong, productive working relationships with suppliers, Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, and Supply Chain stakeholders.
  • Expertise with established semiconductor industry standards for quality management systems and robust supplier management practices.
  • International and domestic travel up to 30%.

The expected salary range for this position is $211,000—$267,000, plus a bonus opportunity.
