Job Summary
The Coder III will be responsible for all coding aspects of the Surgery department. The coder will be expected to be able to charge extract, correctly apply diagnosis, apply modifiers, understand NCCI edits, process denials, and other regulatory requirements. The coder will be in regular communication via email and messaging with the clinic staff to ensure compliant and appropriate coding.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Charge extract, apply diagnosis, apply modifiers, understand NCCI edits and other regulatory requirements
Communicate with the clinic staff to ensure compliant and appropriate coding
Research and process denials insurance follow-up, working collaboratively with the Accounts Receivable Team
Consult with management on edit discrepancies
Participate in client and staff meetings, trainings, and conference calls
Maintain coding knowledge and billing regulations associated with CPT and ICD-10 codes, and modifiers
Maintain continuing education activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and maintain current credentials
Minimum Qualifications & Competencies:
5+ years of professional coding experience in a large academic medical setting is required.
Experience in coding professional Surgical services is required.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and pathophysiology.
Active AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) CASCC, COC, CPC, or Active AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) CCS at the time of hire.
Extreme attention to detail with the ability to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.
Strong knowledge of EPIC, Microsoft Office, and TEAMS.
Must display excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with all levels of internal and external customers.
Proficient in teaching facility guidelines.
Maintains 95% coding accuracy rate and client's productivity standards.
Savista is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $28.00 to $31.00. However, specific compensation for the role will vary within the above range based on many factors including but not limited to geographic location, candidate experience, applicable certifications, and skills
