Job description

ROLE OVERVIEW

This 6-week internship program will be managed by the Community Engagement and Project Development Teams, giving the intern exposure to the development process of our distributed solar and energy storage projects. The Internship will support solar site assessments for critical issues related to project development and support the preparation of permitting documents. The Internship will also support the preparation of community outreach origination campaigns. The internship will also provide direct access to Engineering and Construction Managers for one-on-one exposure to the technical design of solar and energy storage systems. There are many moving pieces to develop solar projects, and the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and communicate is important.

This is a remote internship for enrolled students located in Weld County, CO with the opportunity to visit Pivot Energy's headquarters in Denver, CO. Interns will visit project sites, attend local permit hearings, and participate in community outreach events and meetings.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluate the viability of sites through desktop diligence review, local permitting research, and review of various site conditions on publicly available databases such as FEMA, FAA, NWI, DNR, and SHPO
  • Review and evaluate prospective siting locations utilizing GIS software and assist in responding to mailing campaigns
  • Assist in identifying and creating necessary submittal documents for permitting authorities
  • May attend community events or project sites to discuss solar with stakeholders and fellow Pivot Staff
  • Assist the Director and Managers of Project Development with other tasks related to project development activities

  • REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
  • Enrolled in, or recent graduate of, a relevant degree program (e.g., Environmental Science, Engineering, Business), or solar apprenticeship program
  • Interest in Sustainability, Engineering, &/or Renewable Energy Policy
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Intermediate Computer skills in all basic programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, GIS Programs (Google Earth)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks  across a broad range of projects

  • PREFERRED COMPETENCIES
  • Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and who is not afraid to ask questions and take on tasks outside of their comfort zone 
  • Ability to think “outside the box” and to anticipate roadblocks encountered through site development
