Join USA TODAY’s optimization team, whose advice on strategy is in high daily demand by reporters and editors in a newsroom that serves audiences across the country.
We are looking for a full-time producer who is eager to work with a newsroom that covers everything from celebrities to politics to the Olympics and more. Candidates should have a deep understanding of optimizing websites, curating and updating high-performing content, making homepage decisions driven by data.
The ideal candidate will have experience in polishing must-click headlines, understanding the importance of images to CTR and building loyal audiences by being responsive to traffic patterns and audience interest. They will do this while serving as a steward of our brands across multiple markets and will be immersed in the day-to-day operations and to help USA TODAY’s content become discoverable across all platforms.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on our audience platforms, finding ways to optimize USA TODAY’s stories, photos, videos, graphics and other content across different social and digital platforms (alerts, homefront, social and more).
We are looking for someone who has unlimited curiosity, enjoys collaboration and finds it fun to come up with new ways to connect audiences with content.
This position is a Tuesday to Saturday schedule, and we are looking for someone eager to work evening hours – including 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET on Friday and Saturday.
Responsibilities
- Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content that is packaged and promoted in a way that generates engagement and repeat site visitation.
- Collaborate with editors and reporters to fully optimize the metadata and presentation of content for visibility on search.
- Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital and social) and be quick to report breaking news stories and always on the hunt for exclusive and/or trending content that will grow engagement and drive loyal traffic
- Flexibility to perform duties across multiple websites
- Excellent at writing headlines that grow audience and engagement
- Edit content to promote optimization best practices and prioritize packaging content that grows pageviews per visitor and time on site to create loyal audiences.
- Experience in using headline testing, other available metric tools and observed data patterns to guide decision making
- Ensure newsroom is maintaining keyword diversity with related published content.
- Manage key audience platforms, including USA TODAY's homepage, alerts and social media channels.
- Monitor SERP daily and help the newsroom optimize content to boost engagement.
- Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management, work collaboratively on enterprise content
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least two years of experience working in newsroom setting on optimization of content, SEO strategies and headline/CTR engagement.
- Ability to think and act tactically, technically and strategically and is a quick decision maker
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- A self-starter who is willing to brainstorm and execute on newsroom strategies.
- A willingness to try new things, learn from the results and adapt easily to new technology or tools
- Must have schedule flexibility to work nights and weekends
- Experience with NewsDashboard, Conductor Searchlight or other SEO tools is a plus.
