Job description

Overview

The Sr Medical Science Liaison is responsible for managing and executing field medical activities that support the Medical Affairs strategies for one or more marketed product and/or development compound. They use clinical knowledge and field expertise along with business orientation to identify and communicate business and scientific trends in the healthcare environment. They engage in peer coaching across the Field team and are sought out by peers and colleagues to inform the medical strategy with identified market and healthcare trends. The Medical Science Liaison will understand the external healthcare environment and data gaps related to the disease area or product; gather field intelligence, identify and communicate key insights to internal colleagues; and fulfill stakeholder information needs by communicating appropriate details of therapeutic area and product/compound. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of rare diseases development and a strong sense of science and business acumen.

The successful candidate will be based in The Netherlands.

This is a 6 months FTC role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and engage with KOLs and “rising stars”, establish and maintain peer-to-peer relationships to build awareness, proper use and investigate new uses of Alnylam’s products in a field-based/virtual interactions focused role.
  • Identify investigator-initiated study (IIS) opportunities and will act as the primary conduit and work directly with the investigator during the IIS
  • Report emerging clinical trends
  • In a project based set up assist in development of advisory boards, symposia and publication planning
  • Support the Country Medical Director to develop appropriate strategic and tactical plans (e.g. MAC) for the country/cluster and/or program
  • Support the Country Medical Director in the review of Dutch promotional and non-promotional material.
  • Be the team expert on all aspects of the MSL role including: process improvements and sharing of best practice
  • Foster a collaborative working relationship with Medical Representatives and Commercial colleagues to ensure strategies and business plans are both patient and business focused
  • Work with the BeNeLux team to bring the voice of the field-based MSL into strategy development and material creation
  • Provide accurate and fair-balanced medical and scientific education using literature, summaries of publications, education and presentation scientific materials and presentations to external and internal customers both proactively and in response to requests for information
  • Provide scientific support and attendance to conferences and meetings
  • Ensure relevant and appropriate responses to customer medical inquiries
  • Maintain a level of expertise in the evolving scientific / therapeutic area and in competitor medicines
  • Be compliant to Ethics, Compliance and internal policies
  • Ensures that Adverse Events and Product Complaints are reported to Medical Information as per the Alnylam Adverse Event Reporting Policy

Qualifications

  • Scientific or healthcare background. Degree in medical/natural science, pharmacology or bio-medical sciences.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience within the health care industry in a similar role
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule
  • Approximately 75% travel is required; overnight travel is required as needed
  • Well developed social- and relationship building ability
  • High level of planning and organisational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet departmental and organisational needs.
  • Experience of presenting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment.
  • Awareness of commercial processes at local country level.
  • High level of self-motivation with the ability to work independently and as part of an integrated matrix organisation.
  • Strong critical and independent thinking with effective team working skills.
  • Business acumen with a good understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare arena
