Job description

Did you know the length of Severn Trent’s waste network would wrap around the world twice? Well, now you do.

It’s a big network, and a big responsibility. Every day 8 million people from Scunthorpe to Stroud rely on us to bring them clean water at the turn of a tap and take away their waste in one flush.

From planning, to digging, to inspecting we welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality. We know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our customers and the communities where they live.

If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Are you passionate about safety and infrastructure? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a knack for problem-solving? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

Severn Trent are recruiting for a Frame & Covers Inspector to work within our Waste Networks department. In this role, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of manhole frames and covers. Your responsibilities will include conducting regular inspections, identifying defects, and coordinating repairs to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.

Your other key responsibilities in this role will include…

  • Conduct detailed inspections of manhole frames and covers to spot any signs of damage or wear.
  • Attend to dangerous manholes within 2 hours, ensuring safety in compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA).
  • Confirm that inspected assets are our responsibility and ensure mapping is up to date.
  • Investigate the condition of chambers and frames, raising follow-up work as needed to ensure first-time repairs.
  • Work with highway authorities or customers to coordinate repairs and agree on timelines.
  • Ensure correct permits are raised and authorities are informed.
  • Contact traffic management providers and provide necessary sketches for safe site management.
  • Provide evidence and documentation of site conditions and repairs.
  • Conduct site-specific risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and adhere to company policies and standards.
  • Exhibit the right behaviours and support continual improvement.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

We are looking for a candidate with experience in a similar utility-based industry, who is proficient in IT and computer literacy. You should have a strong background in problem-solving, particularly in repair roles, and be comfortable working in customer-facing environments. Ideally, you will also have knowledge of drainage and waste networks.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and excellent customer service abilities. You should be effective in stakeholder management, have a positive outlook, and be adaptable to change. Problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in the field are crucial. You must be able to accurately capture and record data and work well both independently and as part of a team.

You must hold a full UK Driving Licence and have Maths and English GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent). It would be advantageous if you have Manual Handling Training and NRSWA certification.

The right skills and experience are important. But if you have the right character, positivity and a caring attitude we want to talk to you, too.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities.
