About Health & Risk Communication MA Program at Michigan State University
Michigan State University's Health & Risk Communication M.A. program educates students in both the theory and practice of health communication. Students learn to design, write, implement and evaluate evidence-based health communication materials to prevent and address health problems in our society.
Students complete courses in Mass Communication and Public Health, Health Communication for Diverse Populations, Research Methods, Health and Science Writing, Media Relations, Introduction to Descriptive and Analytical Epidemiology, and an internship in the field of health communication. Students also choose electives and complete a comprehensive exam as a final requirement of the 33 credit program.
Students who graduate from the HRC M.A. program enter a variety of careers and have a strong placement rate. Past graduates have worked at the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as state and local governmental and non-profit positions. This program also serves as a stepping stone to applying to Ph.D. programs across the U.S.
