About the role
IIX is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Vice President – Origination & Borrower Sourcing to lead the expansion and management of pipeline of high-impact borrowers. As a senior member of the Credit team, you will oversee the end-to-end origination process encompassing sourcing, screening and structuring of debt opportunities that advance inclusive finance and deliver measurable impact. You will be responsible for building and maintaining a strong pipeline of potential borrowers, including financial institutions, microfinance institutions, SMEs, and other impact enterprises across diverse geographies, helping to scale IIX’s portfolio and accelerate inclusive finance globally.
This role is ideal for a high-performing individual with deep origination and credit experience in emerging markets and a strong understanding of impact lending ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Origination & Market Development:
- Lead origination efforts by identifying and engaging pipeline opportunities aligned with IIX’s lending framework.
- Build and manage a high-quality, regionally balanced pipeline of investment-ready borrowers, including financial institutions and impact enterprises.
- Execute regional sourcing strategies in alignment with IIX’s impact themes (e.g., gender-lens investing, financial inclusion, climate resilience).
- Expand strategic partnerships to support syndications and co-lending opportunities.
- Represent IIX at key regional and international conferences to build visibility and sourcing channels.
2. Structuring & Due Diligence:
- Lead the structuring and negotiation of debt transactions from origination through approval.
- Conduct thorough preliminary analyses to evaluate the risk of existing and potential borrowers, perform necessary due diligence, and develop appropriate loan structures to mitigate identified risks.
- Work closely with the Credit and Impact team to conduct in-person due diligence across various regions.
- Monitor market trends and risk developments in the region to continuously inform origination strategy and pipeline targeting.
3. Portfolio & Relationship Management:
- Serve as the relationship lead for pipeline borrowers, maintaining high engagement from sourcing through transaction close.
- Support long-term portfolio retention and repeat financing by identifying future capital needs and structuring follow-on transactions.
- Maintain accurate borrower profiles and pipeline data in internal systems.
4. Institutional Strategy & Collaboration:
- Contribute to the development of origination strategy and annual pipeline targets.
- Share knowledge across teams on effective deal structuring, negotiation tactics, and regional market intelligence.
- Support internal reporting, investor updates, and senior management briefings, as needed.
- Ensure full compliance with IIX’s credit policies and impact assessment standards.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Quality of Borrower Pipeline: Alignment of sourced borrowers with IIX’s credit and impact criteria.
- Sourcing Effectiveness: Strength and diversity of channels used to generate pipeline opportunities.
- Screening & Assessment Efficiency: Timely and effective evaluation of borrower suitability for investment.
- Collaboration with Internal Stakeholders: Seamless coordination and alignment during the deal origination process.
- Relationship Management: Quality of borrower engagement and potential for long-term partnerships.
Preferred Qualification & Experience:
- 8–12 years of experience in loan origination or investment management, with a strong track record in emerging markets of South and Southeast Asia.
- Proven expertise in structuring debt investments across FIs, SMEs, MFIs, and impact enterprises.
- Background in inclusive finance, development finance, or impact investing is highly desirable.
- Strong credit risk assessment, and due diligence capabilities.
- A strong network of borrower relationships and proven ability to build new partnerships in targeted regions.
- Commercially-minded and mission-driven, with a track record of delivering results in fast-paced environments.
- Familiarity with ESG and impact assessment frameworks is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills in English (required); additional languages are a strong asset.
- Master’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively to target markets.
