The Senior Director of Finance will serve as a strategic partner to the leadership teams (C-Suite and Management Team) and Business Operations team and oversee Health Leads’ financial health. This role includes leading internal financial management and operations; driving forecasting and financial planning processes; ensuring strong internal controls, compliance, and transparency; people management; and managing relationships with external accounting, finance and operations vendors.  The Senior Director of Finance will ensure clear delineation of duties to maintain accountability, compliance, and operational efficiency and will be responsible for developing strategies that support organizational growth and sustainability.

 

The Senior Director of Finance is a member of the Business Operations Team - a cross-functional team that includes Finance, Operations, and People and Culture. The Senior Director of Finance reports to the Senior Director of Business Operations and closely partners with the Chief Operating Officer.

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, internal reporting, and compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards
  • Develop rolling forecasts and financial strategies to inform organizational priorities
  • Develop, document, and monitor financial policies, procedures, processes, and internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements and strengthen internal controls
  • Prepare and present  bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and dashboards to the C-Suite and the Management Team, the Finance Committee,   and the Board of Directors
  • Lead the annual bi-annual budgeting process in collaboration with the COO,  SIO, and department heads
  • Monitor financial performance against budget and provide actionable insights to leadership
  • Manage banking relationships and ensure effective cash management strategies
  • Support grant budgeting, reporting, and compliance with SIO, development and program teams
  • Maintain and upgrade financial systems as needed
  • Supervise internal finance staff, consultants, and temporary support

 

Oversight of External Accounting Firm

  • Serve as primary liaison to the external accounting firm to ensure timely and accurate delivery of general ledger, payroll, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Review and approve work from the external firm, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead month-end close and preparation for annual audits in coordination with the accounting firm.
  • Align internal and external accounting workflows with clear ownership and accountability.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Approve new vendors to ensure alignment with budget and internal controls
  • Oversee financial aspects of vendor relationships, including cost monitoring and optimization
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to establish and maintain systems to track contract obligations, renewal dates, and key deliverables
  • Serve as the point of contact for insurance contracts and 401K vendor

People Management

  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performing finance staff
  • Provide regularly coaching, performance feedback, and growth opportunities through structured check-ins and reviews
  • Supervise one direct report: Finance and Benefits Manager

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Foster strong relationships across departments to promote understanding and adherence to financial processes.
  • Partner with leadership to analyze financial risks and opportunities that shape strategic decisions.

  • Minimum of 7 -10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, preferably in the nonprofit or mission-driven sector
  • Demonstrated expertise in forecasting, budgeting, and financial modeling
  • Experience managing relationships with external accounting firms, outsourced finance teams and direct reports
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting and compliance, and audit (both financial and 401K) preparation
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with accounting and financial software and related software and platforms (e.g. Quickbooks, Sage, HUBSPOT, Bill.com, Ramp, or similar)
  • Strong commitment to practicing cultural humility through continuous learning and by actively fostering an environment where all identities and perspectives are respected, represented and valued in every aspect of the work

 At Health Leads, we strive to offer competitive salaries.  The posted salary range is based on the market value for similar positions at similarly sized organizations and our salary band for the position level.  When determining salary offers, we take into consideration relevant years of experience, total years of work experience and internal benchmarking to maintain internal equity.  We define relevant years of work experience as experience in an equivalent role with similar levels of responsibility and work 

 

 

Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000

 

Classification: This job is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
