SPT Labtech continues to grow, we have an exciting opportunity for a Field Applications Scientist to be based remotely in France. Ideally located close to Paris or Lyon.

You’ll be part of the global FAS team, which serves as the key interface between the sales team, marketing and customers. Providing expert-level support for our liquid handling suite of products.

About the role:

We are looking for a personable, well-organised scientist with a strong background in at least one, and interest in all of the applications our instruments are used in. In this specialist capacity, you will be responsible for running remote software demos and on-site instrument demos of our firefly, mosquito and dragonfly product lines, dissemination of technical product knowledge, training in product applications and techniques, identifying pertinent competitive product information to our product management team and end-users. This role also requires excellent relationship building skills with both our internal commercial team and our EU/US customer base.

The role will require travel throughout France and Europe, with occasional travel outside Europe to the US or East USA and our UK headquarters. As such, this position must be based near a convenient travel hub in the territory. Being that we are a global company, you will be working with colleagues from across multiple time zones and territories, requiring some flexibility in meeting schedules. As our FAS team work remotely, you will have flexibility in your scheduled appointments with customers and colleagues, allowing you to balance your work and personal responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Pre-Sales

  • Organise and run product demonstrations on all SPT Labtech liquid handlers, including logistics in moving equipment, time management and setting expectations with customers
  • Conduct pre-sales technical presentations with territory managers
  • Organise and conduct customer-facing seminars and workshops.

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Maintain a high-level operational knowledge of our SPT Labtech and Apricot liquid handling products.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in 2-3 applications areas
  • Provide on-going subject matter expertise support to FAS and Territory Management teams.

Training and Support

  • Arrange and provide applications-based training to new and existing users of all SPT Labtech and Apricot liquid handling instruments.
  • Provide ongoing remote and in-person applications support to end-users.
  • Develop, modify, and enhance advanced liquid handling and automation protocols to enhance client operations.

Internal Support

  • Contribute to conference strategy and attend conferences.
  • Ensure customer contacts and associated applications data for your territory in Salesforce are current.

Marketing

  • Seek and deliver a targeted amount of marketing content in the form of customer-driven applications notes, webinars, and conference presentations, including posters
  • Participate in strategic collaborations to regularly deliver scientific content for marketing.
  • Collect customer feedback (product development, software, etc).
  • Maintain positive customer relationships.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Associate FAS as needed. 

About you and your skills:

  • MSc with ideally 4+ practical experience or a PhD with 2+ years practical experience in a Biological Science discipline, liquid handling, laboratory automation or related field in an industry or academic environment.
  • Working knowledge of NGS methods used in research, with experience using liquid handling and automation being preferable (HTS, Assay Development, or molecular or structural biology backgrounds will also be considered).
  • Experience with workflow optimisation in genomics, drug discovery, and structural biology.
  • Good understanding of genomics, drug discovery, and structural biology.
  • Practical experience with genomics/molecular biology is desirable.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively across France and sometimes Europe (50 - 75% travel), including some international travel.
  • Amiable personality; excellent organisational, analytical, troubleshooting, record-keeping, and communication skills; professional demeanour.
  • Previous experience in field applications, teaching, marketing or customer service a plus.
  • Leadership ability with a demonstrated record of mentorship.
  • Ability to work efficiently and both independently and within a team structure.
  • Excellent presentation and training skills.
