About The Role

As an Engineering Manager on the Mood Boards and Communications team at Houzz, you’ll lead a small but talented group of full stack engineers building the creative tools that designers and homeowners use to plan and visualize their dream spaces. You’ll be responsible for driving the technical direction and execution of projects, supporting the professional growth of your team, and collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to deliver high-impact features. Most importantly, you will nurture the team and allow team members to perform and excel. This role combines technical depth with team leadership in a fast-paced, product-focused environment backed by the strength and stability of a global brand.

Our stack includes React, Node, GraphQL, PHP, AWS, GitHub, Jenkins, Kubernetes, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Docker, and more.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and grow a high-performing group of software engineers focused on Mood Boards and Communication tools and creative tools
  • Guide the technical architecture, execution, and quality of features impacting millions of users
  • Partner with product, design, and engineering leadership to shape the roadmap and ensure alignment with business goals
  • Foster a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and high engineering standards
  • Provide regular feedback, mentorship, and career development support to team members
  • Support the team in project scoping, prioritization, and agile delivery
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers and technical leads across the organization
  • Help improve team processes, code quality, and system reliability

At a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2-3 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role
  • Hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React) and backend development (e.g., Node.js , PHP, Python, Java)
  • Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects and deliver high-quality software in production
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product, and design
  • A track record of mentoring or managing other engineers
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Ideally, You'll Also Have

  • Experience scaling consumer-facing web applications and microservices
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus
  • Experience working in a DevOps environment with CI/CD, - containerization, and infrastructure tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Comfort participating in and improving team on-call rotations, as well as bringing visibility on incidents to stakeholders
  • A user-centered mindset and a desire to create delightful product experiences
