Director, Software Development
Full-Time/Remote

We have fully remote options if you reside in one of the following states: CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, MA, MD, MN, MO, NC, NE, NH, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI.

Additionally, you must be authorized to work in the U.S. and cannot work from outside the country.

Position Summary: 

 

The Recycling Partnership is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Director, Software Development, to lead our Digital Tools team. This role leads a small team of developers responsible for building and maintaining web applications and databases that support both internal teams and the broader residential recycling system. Reporting to the Executive Director of Data and Analytics, this role provides strategic and technical leadership, mentors team members, and contributes directly to the design and development of key digital tools. The Director plays a critical role in shaping TRP’s digital infrastructure to ensure it meets the high standards needed to support our mission and drive impact across the industry.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and mentor a small Agile software development team, helping set priorities, manage resources, and create a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
  • Set technical direction and contribute hands-on to coding, debugging, and system design—especially for high-impact or complex projects
  • Oversee TRP’s digital tools, including public-facing platforms like the RPS Hub, Recycle Check, and Chatbot, as well as internal tools and infrastructure.
  • Review code and promote best practices to ensure scalable, reliable, and high-quality solutions.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to define project requirements and deliver user-friendly tools.
  • Guide innovation by staying up to data on new technologies and recommending improvements to enhance digital tools and team performance.
  • Perform other duties as needed in support of team and organizational goals. 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field—or equivalent experience
  •  Experience leading software development teams, including projects, budgets, and people
  • Strong technical skills in Azure, databases (SQL, Postgres, MongoDB), Angular, Python, JavaScript, APIs, and BI tools
  •  Comfortable working in Agile teams using Scrum and Jira
  •  Excellent communicator who can translate tech into clear language
  •  Passion for mentoring and growing team talent.

Preferred Skills: 

  •  Experience using AI or machine learning for web scraping or data processing.
  •  Knowledge of solid waste, sustainable packaging, or residential recycling systems.
  •  Familiarity with extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs or complex regulatory environments.
  • Experience monitoring software performance and troubleshooting issues.

$145,000 - $160,000 per year

 

Other Requirements:

  • This position may require overnight and out-of-state travel for business activities.
  • An employee driving on company business shall have a valid driver’s license.  An employee driving a privately-owned vehicle on company business shall have liability insurance on the privately-owned vehicle.
  • The employee must be able to successfully pass a background check.
