Product managers set the big-picture goals and strategy for their product success. Product owners act as a bridge to connect the product and development teams. As a Product Owner, you add value by prioritizing the right work, at the right times, and making sure everyone on the team is aligned on the reasoning behind that work—to help ensure the continuous delivery of value to our users.
The ultimate responsibility of a product owner is to ensure that the product creates value for its customers and users, as well as for the company. As a PO, you are the person who champions the product, who facilitates the product decisions, and who has the final say about the product. You understand stakeholders' needs and builds a vision that will drive the development team to develop the vision. A Product Owner needs to have an all-inclusive view of the product along with all the other factors like business understanding, go to Market, organizational readiness, and product capabilities. All of these should be collectively managed, coordinated and aligned to drive product success.
Responsibilities:
Concept/Roadmap
Reviews and contributes to the program vision, roadmap, and content presentations
Works with product managers to learn about what problems they are aiming to solve with the product, what customer needs or desires have informed their product strategy, and what the team will view as product success.
Translates understanding of the product manager’s vision and what each product’s area is designed to do for its users
Manages Enhancement Request backlog including reviewing, commenting, and prioritizing for future releases
Ensures bugs are appropriately classified and prioritized for release
Sprints
Breaks product management’s features into user stories, prioritizing initiatives from the product manager, factoring in time, importance, and value.
Writes exhaustive acceptance criteria, ensuring that a comprehensive set of scenarios are established that need to be considered for a user story to be successful.
Refines backlog and prepares for upcoming sprints, working with the team to understand dependencies, bugs, any outstanding questions which may impact the ability to proceed with development.
Participates in daily standups, grooming sessions, sprint planning sessions, and retrospectives.
Represents the needs of many different stakeholders when making key decisions
Serves as a triage resource between the development team and product management to answer questions in the most efficient manner possible.
Defines the definition of done (DoD) and help the product team understand it.
Leads system demonstrations, highlighting new features to stakeholders and gathering feedback
Acts as a liaison for business stakeholders and end-users, determining whether each story meets their shared expectations.
Participates in release management, including review release overview documents, release notes review, advises on updates to training content and help text.
Utilize Azure DevOps for backlog management, work item tracking, sprint planning, and release coordination.
Customer Interactions
Visits customers and attends industry events; synthesizes knowledge gained through attendance into user stories for future product improvements.
Assists in coordinating and facilitating internal Product Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings, Customer Community Meetings, and conference Working Group sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
U.S. work authorization is required.
BS / BA degree or equivalent work experience.
Proven experience working in Agile development environments.
Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps or a similar modern tool for product lifecycle and backlog management.
Demonstrated ability to work with RESTful APIs, including defining requirements for API integrations.
Clearly articulates solution requirements and prioritizes enhancement requests.
Communicates well with a wide range of audiences (technical and non-technical, staff and managerial), and in a wide range of settings (e.g., one-on-one, small group, in person, conference calls and via email) and across multiple time zones.
Demonstrates a deep empathy for users and passion to deliver high quality solutions that they love.
Excellent interpersonal skills; highly invested in developing strong relationships both with customers and colleagues.
Strong communication skills, both spoken and written.
Self-starter, willing to learn and work quickly and independently.
Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment; and reprioritize and meet deadlines as new tasks arise.
Willingness to collaborate with a global workforce across multiple time zones; flexibility in working hours is essential, as standard 9–5 availability is not expected.
This position can be Full Time remote.
Preferred:
Experience working with or implementing research administration solutions (Huron’s HRS applications, InfoEd, Cayuse, COEUS, or the like).
Industry experience with research administration at academic institutions.
Experience working with biological, chemical or radiation safety and/or animal research.
Basic knowledge of key concepts and processes within the Software Development Life Cycle, and with Agile development practices and microservices technologies.
At least 1 year of experience working as a Product Owner, Business Analyst or equivalent.
Product Owner Certification (CSPO, SAFe PO/PM, etc.) a plus.
Ability to travel up to 20% within the U.S.
The estimated base salary for this job is $75,000 - $105,000 USD. The range represents a good faith estimate of the range that Huron reasonably expects to pay for this job at the time of the job posting. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to specific skills or certifications, years of experience, market changes, and required travel. This job is also eligible to participate in Huron’s annual incentive compensation program, which reflects Huron’s pay for performance philosophy. Inclusive of annual incentive compensation opportunity, the total estimated compensation range for this job is $84,000 - $123,900 USD. The job is also eligible to participate in Huron’s benefit plans which include medical, dental and vision coverage and other wellness programs. The salary range information provided is in accordance with applicable state and local laws regarding salary transparency that are currently in effect and may be implemented in the future.
