Position Summary:

The General Manager, Canada Sub-Region will be the face of the Illumina organization, setting out the strategic direction of the sub-region (Canada) and ensuring alignment of the different Illumina functions.

A strategic, empowered leader who can drive the success of our business to support our local markets with local resourcing to maximize market opportunities. This leader is responsible for all customers within the geography across all customer segments.

This leader will be one of seven General Managers driving Illumina’s business in the Americas (Canada, Latin America, and United States).

Direct reports:  District Sales Managers, Sales Specialists Managers

This leader will be part of the AMR Commercial Leadership Team, inclusive of 7 General Managers (5 for US, 1 for CAN, 1 for LATAM), Commercial Ops Leader, Marketing Leader, and Strategic Growth Leader

Key responsibilities

  • Leads Canada business through a team of direct customer- facing functions: district sales and sequencing sales specialists
  • Responsible for aligning and leveraging execution resources across commercial functions to maximize market adoption and success
  • Responsible for attainment of financial and strategic goals for the business within the geography in support of the company’s overall financial and strategic objectives
  • Drive accelerated and consistent revenue growth and market penetration in both life sciences and clinical market businesses
  • Lead and drive the genomics ecosystem within region by being responsible for developing commercial plans for advancing the company’s products and/or services to meet market demands within the geographic area of responsibility, working within the general financial plans provided by global commercial management and cross-functional counterparts
  • Within the geography, directs the sales of the organization’s products or services and develops the country/region’s go-to-market strategy in partnership with marketing and forecasts sales volumes
  • Has P&L responsibilities to decide on customer-facing resources to drive business
  • Works closely with global and other regional counterparts on critical strategic matters and business issues such as competitive positioning, new product launches, new product/solutions investments and governance for ‘global’ customers that span region
  • Build Illumina brand in region
  • Develop and ensure execution against KOL and government strategy for geography. Partnerships are key
  • Able to engage meaningfully with government and key industry leaders
  • Shape the Illumina company’s view on new market opportunities for the region
  • Identify, recruit, and retain top-notch talent that will drive the company's success, creating advancement opportunities and deepening a strong talent development culture that produces outstanding talent needed to sustain a growing enterprise. Ensure a leadership team reporting to them that can do the same to ensure we are cultivating the breadth and depth of leadership talent needed
  • Build a high-performance culture; ensure the organization is built with scalability and operational excellence in mind
  • Lead their geography with utmost integrity, modeling professionalism and ethical business and personal conduct always to ensure a full company compliance culture and safeguard the interest of Illumina and its shareholders

Evidence of the ability to create and inspire high-performance teams is sought in the ideal candidate with the ability to make and influence all key talent decisions.

Cross-functional leadership and experience in other functions will enable the candidate to reinforce the performance-driven team culture, articulate the strategy to ensure the seamless execution, develop and motivate the team, and instill growth mindset to the team.

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 18 years of related experience, with 10+ years of Management experience
