Job description

Group Overview 

Air Mobility Group (AIRMOB) is responsible for developing and delivering Metrea’s aerial refueling (AAR) capabilities, ensuring the readiness and operational effectiveness of the tanker fleet. AIRMOB oversees fleet management, maintenance, and airworthiness, working to sustain and enhance refueling operations. It manages the integration of new processes and technologies, ensuring that tanker aircraft remain mission-ready through effective logistics, maintenance oversight, and regulatory compliance. By coordinating across various teams, AIRMOB ensures the fleet meets both current and future operational needs, supporting a range of specialized air mobility missions.  

Position Summary 

The Aviation Major Assembly Manager inspects the aircraft assembly process for quality assurance and ensures that the project stays within budget and on schedule. 

 

Role and Responsibilities 

 

  • Manages KC-135 aircraft major assemblies, including but not limited to landing gear, MPRS pods, and aerial refueling boom assemblies, in support of the tanker fleet management business capability (BC) within the Air Mobility Group (AIRMOB).
  • Manage strategic planning efforts for major assemblies and associated sub-assemblies and components to ensure maximum availability of
     components/systems.
  • Manages project teams responsible for maintenance, repair and overhaul of critical major aircraft assemblies to sustain the only privately-held fleet of KC-135R and C-135FR tankers in the world.
  • Must be able to build and lead teams in an effective and collaborative
     manner 
  • Position requires a self-starter, who can “roll up their sleeves” to accomplish required tasks and objectives.
  • Coordinates with counterparts in Aircraft Maintenance and Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM) areas to ensure tanker fleet major accessories are maintained and provisioned to meet operational requirements.
  • Coordinates with counterparts in the Metrea Strategic Mobility (MSM) tanker capability unit (CU) to ensure major assembly planning aligns with operational objectives of the CU. 
  • Coordinates with counterparts in the Program Management Office (PMO)
     responsible for ingestion of aircraft from the former French Air Force fleet as C-135FR and KC-135RG aircraft return to service in revenue-generating operations.

 

Skills and Experience 

Education: 

  • Associates degree in an aviation specialty, at minimum

Experience: 

  • 5 years prior experience working in a commercial heavy-aircraft aviation maintenance environment is required.
  • 3 years prior experience managing planning and repairs of aircraft components and accessories.
  • Prior certification as an airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic is highly desired.
  • Prior experience with USAF KC-135R, or similar aircraft, on maintenance and planning cycles to include working with technical data from the USAF KC-135R technical order (TO) system, is highly desired.
  • Prior experience establishing and sustaining a predictive maintenance planning and execution program for major accessories and components is highly desired.
  • Prior experience working on a US government aviation services contract is highly desired, with prior experience working directly with NAVAIR on a contract is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and time management skills are required.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Prior A&P license is highly desired but not required
  • Valid Driver’s License

Computer Skills: 

  • Aircraft maintenance documentation systems of record (i.e. FlightDocs, Corridor, AMOS, etc.); 
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Additional Eligibility Qualifications 

Must be able to accomplish all duties with little or no assistance

Preferred
 Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree highly desired (preferred to be in a technical field).

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Current A&P license
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification 

Computer Skills: 

  • Microsoft project management tools

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time non-exempt position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
