Job description

Position Title: Development Director
Reports to: Co-Director
Direct reports: None
Location: Open, fully remote
Annual Pay Range: $115,000-130,000
Classification: Full-time; Exempt; At-Will


The Child Care For Every Family Network (The Network) brings together the people directly involved in and impacted by child care—parents, providers, organizers and advocates—to build a racial and gender justice-centered child care system that is accountable to those who have been most harmed by our lack of investment and currently underfunded programs. We are convening families, organizations, and providers across localities, states, and the nation to develop shared strategies to fundamentally transform child care.


POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as our first Development Director. This full-time, salaried position is ideal for an individual with at least five years of experience in a strategic fundraising role, with a strong background in communications, systems thinking, and community organizing. This individual will play a key role in shaping our fundraising efforts, focusing on raising funds not only for our organization but also lending support for our partner organizations, reflecting our dedication to power building and the organizational sustainability of state-based organizations. This is a unique opportunity to help The Network build a robust fundraising strategy and lead initiatives that support both our mission and the broader ecosystem of partners with whom we work.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for The Network that aligns with our mission and goals. This includes working closely with the leadership team to identify opportunities for both unrestricted and programmatic funding.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of all Network grants, from prospecting to proposal submission to reporting, taking full ownership of implementation.
  • Cultivate and steward existing and new relationships with key funders, leveraging those relationships to secure funding for the Network.
  • Build relationships with donors, foundations, and stakeholders, helping to identify aligned funding opportunities for organizing partners and make connections supporting relationship building. The Network’s success relies upon the success of our partners and the movement as a whole, and this role will require strategic thinking to ensure our shared vitality.
  • Produce high-quality and compelling development materials, including proposals, letters, and reports that effectively communicate our mission, goals, and impact.
  • Work with The Network leadership and program staff to build internal capacity and help develop better fundraising strategies across teams.
  • Work as a collaborative member of our small team, supporting communications, policy, organizing, and other network staff as needed.
  • Support measuring of Network progress, data collection, and reporting.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES

  • Experience with, and preference for, working in a racially- and culturally-diverse environment with people of all abilities and backgrounds.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a significant fundraising or development role with a proven record of leadership and increased levels of responsibility; with a focus on strategy, communications, and relationship building and a record of success.
  • A fundraising background not limited to traditional nonprofit fundraising - previous experience in 501(c)4 fundraising is highly desired.
  • Proven experience in designing and executing a fundraising strategy, with a systems thinking approach to building sustainability.
  • A strong communicator with a proven ability to write compelling and tailored fundraising materials such as proposals, letters, and development communications.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with leadership, staff, and partners. A demonstrated history of supporting others in developing their fundraising capabilities, including through board development, executive coaching, or training staff.
  • Strong preference for candidates who have worked in intermediary roles building relationships between funders and organizations.
  • Willingness to experiment with new approaches and challenge the status quo - we want you to bring fresh ideas to the table, and help lead the charge on new fundraising strategies.
  • Proven capacity to develop strong, trusting relationships with foundation program officers to better navigate the complexities of foundation funding.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the challenges of building something new, including the ability to experiment with and refine strategies as needed.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative and interdependent team environment.
  • Experience supporting community organizing or power-building.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google programs, video conferencing technology and CRM platforms.
  • Expertise in EveryAction or a similar database.
  • Able to work on and with a fully remote team.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $115,000 to $130,000

Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 200 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.
