ELITS is now looking for a Wireless Network Field Technician skilled and self-motivated professional to support the commissioning, maintenance, and optimization of wireless network infrastructure in different regions (Montreal, Halifax, Vancouver, Toronto) . This role focuses on ensuring high availability and performance across cellular sites and transport facilities within the customer’s wireless network.

Key technologies supported include microwave radio systems, direct current (DC) power systems, various generations of cellular base stations (Global System for Mobile Communications GSM, Universal Mobile Telecommunications System UMTS, Long-Term Evolution LTE, and Fifth Generation 5G), in-building distributed antenna systems (DAS), paging systems, Cisco and Milan network switches, remote terminal units (RTUs) using Transport Local Area Network (TLAN), heating, ventilation, air conditioning and facility access control (HVAC/FAC) systems, fibre optic terminals, and multiport antenna and line systems.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations and Troubleshooting

• Respond to network trouble reports (Incident Management Tickets IMT) with efficient diagnostics and repairs to meet service restoration goals.

• Coordinate with the Network Operations Centre (NOC), Technical Assistance Centre (TAC), Real Estate, Engineering, and Field Operations teams to resolve faults and maintain service continuity.

• Perform acceptance tests on new equipment and ensure deployment meets design and performance specifications.

• Conduct root cause analysis and contribute to incident reports and service-level improvements.

Maintenance and Optimization

• Execute preventive maintenance routines to ensure optimal network performance and compliance with standards.

• Participate in network build, upgrade, and optimization initiatives, including walk testing and performance verification (received signal strength indicator RSSI, transmit levels, dropped call analysis).

• Investigate and mitigate in-building uplink (UL) RSSI interference issues.

• Identify safety concerns and report them to management for resolution.

Installation and Commissioning

• Implement work orders for Fifth Generation (5G), Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), Long-Term Evolution (LTE), and transport systems while minimizing impact on live network environments.

• Commission and validate performance of transmission systems, including microwave, fibre optic, and optical links.

• Commission new build activity and complete acceptance inspections using checklists.

Inventory and Documentation

• Maintain accurate documentation, including site records, as-built drawings, and incident tickets.

• Manage tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory to ensure readiness for field and laboratory work.

• Handle administrative responsibilities including mileage logs, time sheets, expense reporting, and data updates.

On-Call and Field Work

• Provide rotational on-call support, including shift work and overtime as needed.

• Access remote or seasonally difficult sites using off-road vehicles.

• Tow and deploy mobile generators during power outages to maintain service.

Qualifications and Skills

• Diploma or Certificate in Electronics or equivalent experience in telecommunications. 

  • Driver’s license and a car/vehicle needed
