Job Description:

The Trade Promotion Manager is responsible for managing the trade budget, trade spend activities, trade management systems and reporting, and trade-related processes to achieve company goals and ensure a balance between trade performance and profitability. This includes optimizing gross margins across customers, partners, and products; and optimizing trade performance that align with business objectives and KPIs. The role involves collaboration with the sales team on trade activities and customer profitability, with the finance department for accurate financial reporting, and with the demand planning group for forecast accuracy. The TPM also oversees and manages the data, systems, and reporting related to trade rate management, trade performance, and gross margins for customers and partners. The TPM supervises one direct report, the Sales Trade Analyst, and reports to the Vice President of Sales Operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development and execution of the annual trade budget to achieve trade rate expectations at the organization level, by customer, and by product line
  • Analyze and report on business results versus plan, projection/forecast, and prior year
  • Proactively analyze promotional activities that uncover issues, drive effective use of trade funds, and champion delivering volume while maximizing profitability
  • Ensure compliance with promotion guidelines and standards, and ensure guidelines and standards are comprehensive and complete
  • Support the sales team through the trade management and deduction settlement process, to ensure timely and accurate end-to-end execution of trade spend
  • Supervise and lead a Sales Trade Analyst to be successful in their role in service to overall trade management goals and company goals
  • Perform or support post-promotion analytics to evaluate and determine promotional effectiveness, efficiency, and ROI, and make data-driven recommendations for improvements
  • Collaborate with the demand planning team to inform and improve sales forecasting accuracy and ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Oversight of data, metrics, KPIs, and systems/tools to ensure consistency and efficiencies in performance reporting and analytics, and successful execution of the role
  • Manage vendor/supplier contracts related to the role
  • Promote and facilitate the concept of profitable revenue growth across all elements of the business

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong business acumen and excellent analytical abilities; translate findings into clear, actionable insights and prescriptive recommendations
  • Strong communication skills; ability to communicate both financial and non-financial benefits of recommendations to Senior Leadership, and work effectively cross-functionally
  • High degree of accuracy and integrity with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong team player who manages collaboratively with all stakeholders through a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and commitment
  • Proficiency in project management, with experience using tools like Power BI, Excel, and D365, as well as data sources like SPINS and Nielsen syndicated data.
  • Self-starter, takes initiative, and recognizes the need for urgency and driving projects forward
  • Solution-focused attitude, and continuous improvement and change management mindset; demonstrated willingness to challenge the status-quo
  • Solid grasp of financial principles, including understanding cost structures and measuring financial impact of scenario planning
  • Trade promotion management system implementation or regular usage

 

Additional Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of CPG retail landscape and trade promotion practices
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfortable with Power BI or similar tools
  • Commercial mindset of creative thinking about sustainably growing the business while ensuring healthy margins
  • Experience with NAV/Microsoft Dynamics D365 preferred

Job Details:

  • Work Hours: Business Hours
  • Willingness to travel as needed, up to 15%
  • Pay Range: $125,000 - $150,000 annually, bonus eligible
