The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray–Darling Basin’s water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.

The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 50 First Nations. The Position

The APS6 PRO sits in the MDBA’s Strategic Policy and Performance team, which forms part of our Business Services Division’s Strategy, Performance and Portfolio Management Branch. The team is responsible for: meeting agency obligations under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 Corporate Performance Reporting Framework including the development of our Corporate Plan and Annual Report; providing coordination, oversight and support for annual operational planning activities; and maintaining and supporting agency input into domestic and international water policy matters.

The PRO is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and management of the MDBA’s performance and reporting activities, including our obligations under the Commonwealth Performance Framework. The role involves coordinating, reviewing and analysing performance data, preparing reports, and providing insights to support decision-making processes. The PRO will work closely with various internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely inputs into important organisational artefacts.

Your Key Responsibilities In This Role Are To

  • Support the delivery of the MDBA’s performance framework, including the Portfolio Budget Statement, Corporate Plan and Annual Report.
  • Support business divisions to develop operational plans and performance information that contribute to the MDBA’s strategic goals.
  • Analyse performance data and provide insights and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely input to planning and reporting activities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and legislative requirements including the PGPA Act.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of performance and reporting processes and activities.
