PEACE ARCH HOSPITAL (PAH) is seeking qualified physicians to join our well established Hospitalist program in a permanent or part time capacity. Applicants should have a strong interest in developing an acute care hospital practice and working collaboratively with all members of the inter-professional team, including medical staff, Nurse Practitioners and Allied Health staff.
Primary responsibilities include admission and management of acute medical patients as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP), as well as consulting and supportive medical service in some surgical and psychiatric patients. Peace Arch Hospital is committed to a culture of collaborative , inter-professional and team based care.
This job requires superior clinical and communication skills, along with exceptional bedside manner and patient management abilities. Our hospitalists must be proficient with the range of hospital and community resources available in their local institution, and work collaboratively with specialist and community- based physicians to optimize patient care and discharge planning processes. Our team members must demonstrate a commitment to the evolving specialty of hospital medicine through involvement in clinical and non-clinical activities (such as quality improvement projects, participation in committees and academic excellence).
We currently have 8 Hospitalists working day shifts from 7 am – 5 pm . The Hospitalists working are called Team 1-8. There is an evening shift from 5 pm till midnight and a night shift from midnight till 7 am ( Need to sleep on Hospital premises) . In addition to these shifts we have and admission line daily from 12h00 ( noon ) till 5 pm to help with the daily load and this can be coupled with an virtual shift from 5 pm – 9 pm that can be managed on the phone from home . The virtual shift will just be managing the ward calls to relieve the pressure of the evening shift admissions.
New graduates who apply for positions are expected to demonstrate their proficiency in hospital medicine through hospitalist electives and other relevant educational rotations during their training. Candidates with post-graduate Fellowship training in hospital medicine will be given preference.
Compensation: per master agreement. Full time is considered 14 days per month and part time work is anticipated to be 50% of those hours.
