The Pandemic and Disaster Preparedness Center is looking for a creative and driven student to join our team and help us transform complex data into engaging, insightful narratives that inform critical decisions in disaster preparedness and pandemic response.
Role
As a Data Visualization Intern, you will work closely with our interdisciplinary data team to transform complex data into clear, actionable visual insights. Your work will play a critical role in supporting our research, policy recommendations, and strategic planning. You will have the opportunity to:
Design and create interactive data visualizations to communicate key trends and insights from our research projects such the Pathogens Portal Netherlands.
Assist in the development and maintenance of dashboards and reporting tools such as the Pandemic Simulation dashboard.
Collaborate with data scientists, researchers, and other stakeholders to understand and visualize large, complex datasets.
Contribute to presentations and reports aimed at influencing policy and decision-making.

The Pandemic and Disaster Preparedness Center (PDPC) works at the intersection of infectious diseases, social sciences and disaster management. Our goal is to enhance global resilience to future pandemics and disasters by creating actionable insights from complex datasets. We focus on improving preparedness, response strategies and research by leveraging data visualization and analytical tools.
Profiel
A background in data visualization, statistics, or a related field (e.g., data science, biomedical, or social sciences).
Eagerness to learn about data visualization tools based on Python, R-Shiny, Power BI or D3.js.
We prefer candidates who are able to understand and communicate in Dutch, as the internship takes place in an international environment that also involves Dutch-speaking stakeholders.
A keen eye for detail and a strong ability to translate complex data into clear, user-friendly visual representations.
Open communication skills and the ability to present data findings to diverse audiences.
An interest in global health, disaster management, and the use of data to solve pressing societal challenges.

A temporary internship contract for 3 to 6 months.
