If you have experience sailing as a Second Engineer, and hold a Chief Engineers Unlimited certificate with up to date STCW certification, then we want to hear from you.
As the Second Engineer, your role will be overseeing the daily operation and maintenance of the vessel's engine room and machinery and ensuring the vessel runs effectively. You will also support the Chief Engineer to ensure that all propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems function efficiently and safely.
This vacancy will be based on board either one of three Marine Patrol vessels or a Marine Research vessel.
These Vessels carry out patrols which normally last 22 days for Patrol, or 29 days for Research. All vessels work double crewing allowing for trip on/trip off rostering.
- Assist in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel’s machinery.
- Preparation and monitoring of main machinery and auxiliary equipment.
- Testing and maintaining monitoring system for unmanned operation.
- UMS duties on main and auxiliary machinery whilst vessel is at sea and in port.
- Carry out planned maintenance and running repairs on vessel’s machinery.
- Allocate and supervise work of motorman.
- Maintain adequate supply of stores and spares in conjunction with Chief Engineer.
- Assist Chief Engineer to ensure that safety procedures are adhered to.
- Carry out Monthly Conversations including interim and annual staff appraisals for the Third Engineer and Motorman.
Qualifications
Chief Engineer Unlimited III/2 Cerificate of Competency
Valid ENG1 Certificate – Must declare limitations prior to taking on role
