The Team You Will Be Joining
This agency oversees and provides workforce development services to employers and job seekers of Texas. They support the state’s already incredibly skilled workforce and the needs of employers, further drawing business to Texas. Working toward fulfilling the Governor’s economic development strategy, this agency ultimately strengthens Texas’ economy by enhancing workers’ development.
Major Duties
Conduct unemployment insurance hearings for the Texas Workforce Commission’s Appeal Tribunal.
Serve as an administrative decision-maker resolving disputes, primarily related to unemployment insurance.
Perform entry-level legal work including fact-finding, adjudication, and decision drafting.
Render timely, legally sound decisions based on applicable laws, rules, and precedents.
Occasionally preside over hearings for other TWC-administered programs.
Participate in training on procedures, legal standards, and effective communication.
Exercise independent judgment while upholding due process and agency policies.
Maintain professionalism and fairness when interacting with diverse individuals, even under pressure.
What are we looking for?
Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited law school approved by the American Bar Association
Must have a secure internet connection and ability to work remotely
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Texas Payday Law, Texas Unemployment Compensation Act, and TWC-related legal principles and procedures.
Experience conducting informal administrative hearings and drafting legal documents efficiently and accurately.
Skilled in identifying relevant facts, applying logical analysis, and interpreting/applying laws using legal reference materials.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work well in team settings, multitask, and perform under pressure to meet deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Word with excellent typing skills (50 WPM) and a meticulous eye for detail.
Demonstrates adaptability, eagerness to learn, and a strong commitment to accuracy and professionalism.
Exciting Opportunity Details:
Rate: $44.00 per hour
Length of Engagement: 5/15/25 – 8/31/25 with a possibility of extension
Days/Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm
Location: Remote in Texas
