Join Curri to build and refine our data function with purpose and vision. As Director of Data Science and Engineering, you'll thoughtfully evolve our existing modern data infrastructure to drive strategic decision-making across the organization. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact at a growth-stage startup by translating complex data operations into actionable insights that directly influence our business trajectory.
You'll lead a small, talented team (currently 3 members) while working closely with our executive leadership to shape how we leverage data. This role offers the autonomy to "make data your baby" while working within a collaborative environment that values both technical excellence and thoughtful implementation.
What you will do:
Lead and develop our existing data team to maximize their potential and impact
Refine and optimize our Snowflake-based data infrastructure, building upon the foundation we've established with Snowflake, DBT, and Metabase
Create platforms for operationalizing generative AI across the business, building on our successful implementations in support, driver optimization, and data summarization
Partner with the executive team to translate data insights into strategic business decisions
Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Finance, and other teams to ensure data solutions directly support company growth
Identify and implement targeted infrastructure improvements that enhance system performance without unnecessary rebuilding
Mentor team members to foster growth and continuity, resulting in strong retention and consistently high-quality work
Share insights and perspectives at executive meetings and company All Hands, particularly around data strategy and AI initiatives
What you need to have:
8+ years in data roles, including 3+ years in a leadership position, with a track record of impact in growth environments
Deep expertise with Snowflake and modern data stack technologies (DBT, etc.)
Strong understanding of AI/ML implementation and operationalization in business contexts
Proven ability to build and mentor technical teams with limited resources
Strategic mindset that balances long-term vision with practical, iterative execution
Excellent communication skills to share complex concepts across all levels of the organization
Experience working effectively across departments to deliver cohesive solutions
Self-directed work style with a bias toward ownership and accountability
What will make you stand out:
Thoughtful Innovation: You identify which emerging tools and methods create genuine business value versus following trends
Team Development: You create multiplier effects by combining technical excellence with people development
Business Impact: You connect data initiatives to concrete business outcomes rather than pursuing technical initiatives in isolation
Strategic Communication: You confidently share insights that shape company-wide decisions while maintaining independent perspective
Cross-functional Influence: You maintain strong relationships across the organization while delivering high impact
Iterative Approach: You value thoughtful evolution over disruptive change, building upon what works while strategically addressing gaps
