I: Job Summary 
 

The Senior Director, Global Franchise Lead is responsible for leading commercial development and lifecycle management for the pipeline portfolio within a therapeutic area. This role provides strategic commercial input into product development through active participation on Product Development Teams (PDTs). This individual plays a critical role in ensuring that pipeline assets are positioned for long-term success in alignment with market needs and organizational goals.

 

The ideal candidate brings demonstrated success in leading cross-functionally with teams across R&D, Clinical Development, Commercial Assessment, Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, Market Access, Competitive Intelligence, and Regulatory Affairs. A global marketing background is essential, and experience leading cross-functional teams in commercial development or new product planning is highly desirable.

 

This role requires a strategic mindset, strong business acumen, and the ability to influence and lead in a matrixed environment to advance pipeline assets and maximize their commercial potential.  In addition, this role supports the Global Strategic Marketing team in its development of therapeutic area strategy and is periodically involved in supporting commercial assessment with BD&L activities. 
Reporting to the VP of Global Strategic Marketing & Commercial Development, this individual will play a key role in shaping and executing commercial development strategies that drive differentiation and capitalize on global market opportunities for Emergent BioSolutions’ portfolio
 

II: Responsibilities (Include key responsibilities only. This should not be an all-encompassing list)

 

PIPELINE COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT TEAM LEAD

  • Responsible for delivering a Commercialization Plan for each of Emergent BioSolutions’ pipeline products 
  • Partner with R&D to provide commercial input into pipeline, product development and lifecycle management for pipeline products
  • Lead a cross-functional commercial development team in assessing and shaping  pipeline products for success in the marketplace including business case development, as well as establishing product positioning for Emergent products to be well-differentiated in the marketplace.
  • Develop and provide a deep understanding of marketplace, competitive dynamics, access/pricing dynamics and their associated segments, opportunities, and challenges, including treatment paradigms, patient journey, key value drivers and barriers
  • Provide commercial input for Target Product Profile and Target Product Claims development along with Research, Clinical, Regulatory, and CI/MR and Market Access stakeholders to advance pipeline product development plan
  • Define the asset value proposition and commercial model required to effectively target key audiences, including physicians, consumers, and payers for successful commercialization 
  • Work with Commercial Assessment on forecasts of pipeline products, considering market dynamics and potential revenue streams.
  • Identifying and recommending lifecycle management indications, formulation and global expansion for new product opportunities with strategic objectives, market potential, and resource allocation.
  • Working collaboratively with in-line sales and marketing and aligning throughout product development establishing strong relationship and communication patterns.
     

EXISTING PRODUCT LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT

  • Responsible for lifecycle management plans to expand existing product LCM indications, formulations and global expansion opportunities for existing TA products leading a TA cross-functional team with R&D, while working closely and aligning with in-line sales and marketing teams to gather customer and market insights.
  • Collaborate on long-range forecasting (3-10 years) working closely with cross-functional partners and VP GSM & CD on identifying and validating commercial assumptions for inputs into the corporate Long-Range Plan.
     

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & LICENSING SUPPORT

  • Periodically, provide commercial strategic input on commercial assessments for Business Development licensing, partnerships, and acquisitions activities, coordinating closely with Commercial Assessment Lead, and CI to establish a view of disease area marketplace, product positioning, and commercial assumptions

III: Education, Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 10- 15  years of sales and marketing experience in the branded specialty pharmaceutical industry.  Candidates who have launched new products or served as a global commercial lead, developed new products & indications will be given special consideration.
  • Experience in broad therapeutic areas with  experience in vaccines and/or government markets a plus.  
  • Bachelor’s degree: MBA preferred.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate conceptual thinking into articulated strategies down to the tactical level.
  • Strong collaborator who builds trust and strong relationships with new colleagues to establish this function within the organization
  • Exceptional writing, power point and communications skills. 
  • Prioritize workload, working closely with VP GSM&CD, to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills 
  • Ability to travel

Travel:

Approximately 10%. Unlikely to include international travel.

U.S. Base Pay Ranges and Benefits Information

The estimated annual base salary as a new hire for this position ranges from [$206,500 to $250,000]. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.  The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.  Certain roles are eligible for additional incentive compensation, including merit increases, annual bonus, [and/or long-term incentives in the form of stock options.]
