What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking a seasoned AI & Document Automation Engineer with deep expertise in OCR, AI/ML, and document processing technologies. This role will be responsible for designing, building, and deploying an end-to-end system that can automatically ingest customer documents, extract all relevant data with high precision, and integrate seamlessly with our internal systems.
This is a remote opportunity to work from home.
What You’ll Do:
- Evaluate, design, and implement a document automation pipeline using OCR, AI/ML, and NLP techniques.
- Develop custom or pre-built models to extract structured data from unstructured documents like paystubs, W-2s, bank statements, and insurance documents.
- Ensure extremely high accuracy (aiming for 100%) in data extraction, validation, and reconciliation.
- Integrate the solution into our existing systems (Loan Origination System) and workflows.
- Work with compliance and data security teams to ensure handling of sensitive customer information meets regulatory standards.
- Build reusable components, APIs, and services to scale the solution across document types.
- Research and prototype new tools and frameworks as needed, including leveraging platforms like Google Document AI, Microsoft Form Recognizer, and open-source alternatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, operations, underwriting.
What You’ll Need:
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years focused on document AI, OCR, and intelligent document processing and data extraction.
- Strong experience with AI/ML libraries and frameworks. Familiarity with commercial OCR and AI tools.
- Proficiency in Python or other backend languages.
- Experience with data extraction from scanned or digital PDFs, including table extraction and field normalization.
- Experience using automation to detect fraudulent documents.
- Understanding of regular expressions and rule-based systems for data parsing.
- Solid knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms (Azure).
- Experience handling financial or sensitive documents securely and in compliance with industry standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the mortgage or financial services industry.
- Familiarity with mortgage-specific document formats and data points.
- Experience with human-in-the-loop (HITL) systems to improve model accuracy over time.

Compensation:
The annual salary for this position generally ranges between $100,000 – $140,000.
