The States Project: Senior Manager, Governance Programs

LOCATION: National. 100% Remote, with 20-25% of expected travel.

Position Details:
This is a full-time, exempt, at-will position. The team currently operates remotely, with occasional in-person team retreats, as well as regular in-person programming. Some travel will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of this position.

The Opportunity:
The States Project is seeking a Senior Manager for the Lawmaker Engagement team who will be responsible for managing programs for lawmakers focused on effective governance to achieve the American Promise, as well as managing team systems and operations to ensure efficiency, scalability, and alignment with TSP goals.

This role involves identifying and executing new ways to engage with lawmakers, supporting program and content development, collecting and analyzing data, systems development and improvement, coordinating internal and cross-team workstreams, and managing team operations. The role reports to the Vice President of Lawmaker Engagement.

What You Will Do
  • Principal activities will include but not be limited to: 

  • Program Development and Evaluation:
  • Manage, implement, and evaluate annual programming plan and support on all related materials, including maintaining project plans and a centralized programming calendar
  • Coordinate and/or support development of content and related materials for different types of lawmaker programming (including Fellowship, Task Forces, Working Groups, and other cohorts), as well as briefings, webinars, and seminars
  • Solicit and integrate feedback across teams to inform cohesive content creation
  • Provide ongoing project management for all programming, including content approvals and overseeing logistics (with support from a support staff member)
  • Manage overall program evaluation framework and related survey tools

  • Team Operations and Systems Support:
  • Oversee ongoing and accurate data management (e.g. seminar recaps, Key Contacts, lawmaker lists, CRM management, research processes, etc.)
  • Manage execution of team meetings, other internal meetings, and planning of team retreats
  • Project manage and track/report on Lawmaker Engagement goals/metrics
  • Work with team leadership to recommend and support improvements related to systems and processes
  • Ensure adherence to programming budgets and budget tracking (particularly for in-person engagements)

  • Lawmaker Communications, Outreach, and Engagement:
  • Coordinate outreach and invites for, tracking, and follow-up from all programming, including pre and post-event communications and attendance metrics
  • Oversee and ensure consistently accurate and up to date contact lists and CRM functions that are maintained by Program Associate
  • Identify opportunities for and track the development of relationships with Key Lawmakers to shepherd them into targeted opportunities
  • Oversee mass email sends that are executed by Program Associate

  • Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience working in programming and project management
  • Passion for and alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and theory of change
  • Self-starter with a drive to make things happen: proven track record of excellence and high standards for success
  • Highly collaborative approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of independently managing time and tasks associated with a fast-paced organization
  • Excellent attention to detail, judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Familiarity with CRMs, mass email platforms, and spreadsheet/data platforms

  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in related field
  • Familiarity with evidence-based program evaluation, such as the Kirkpatrick Model or similar
  • Previous policy or political work experience
  • Event planning experience

    Compensation:
    The salary for this position is $97,582-$103,004*. Salary offers are made based on the market rate and the candidate's demonstrated level of proficiency, experience, and credentials.

    *The pay rate or range noted for this position is in compliance with the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023, NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, and other state and local laws.
