Job Summary

The Purdue Silicon Valley Internships Coordinator will develop internship and co-op opportunities for Purdue students with major tech companies and startups in Silicon Valley and beyond. The position is fully remote with the successful candidate based in the San Francisco Bay area. This role will focus on developing internship and co-op opportunities for Purdue students with a range of companies, engage Purdue’s alumni network in Silicon Valley to build opportunities for students, and organize a variety of Purdue College of Engineering engagement events in Silicon Valley. The position will help connect students with companies through the development of study tours, networking events, and systems improving students’ knowledge about available opportunities. This position will also aid in providing professional development to students’, enabling students to successfully pursue and complete internship opportunities with tech companies and startups. The position will lead Purdue’s annual study away course titled “Silicon Valley and the Tech Industry”. This position will collaborate with several offices on campus, alumni, and external partners to enhance Purdue’s presence in Silicon Valley.

What You'll Be Doing:

Industry Relations 
· Develop new partnerships and continually increase participation in Bay Area internships and co-op’s with the goal of more than 100 internships in year one. 
· Maintain and enhance existing partnerships. Reduce barriers for company and student participation. 
· Interface with Purdue alum, campus offices, and employer partners to continually improve programming and increase opportunities for students.
· Develop opportunities with startup companies benefitting students participating in OPP programs like GEARE, the Semiconductor Certificate Program, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Certificate, and the Noble Reach Innovation in Public Service Certificate. 
· Continually engage with industry to understand skill sets needed for students to engage in professional experiences earlier in their academic career. 
· Develop and coordinate recruitment opportunities for employers including career fairs, and job postings.

 

Student Programming, Advising, and Success 
· Create programming and communication to support the retention and development of students pursuing opportunities with tech companies and startups including orientations, professional development seminars, study tours, and networking events. 
· Develop and instruct an internship course focused on experiences with startup companies. 
· Monitor success of students pursuing opportunities with Bay Area companies and assist with experiential learning activities. 
· Prepare data to report on student experiences and progress. 
· Develop promotional material to highlight student and company partner activities and achievements. 
· Provide information related to Purdue’s activities in Silicon Valley to students, families, and external partners via phone, video chat, or in-person meetings.

 

Instruction and Coordination of Professional Skills and Industry Knowledge Courses 
· Design and implement curriculum for professional skills courses including ENGR 10301 Intro to Professional Practice and ENGR 10301 Silicon Valley and the Tech Industry. Engage industry and alumni to participate in the courses. Participate in the instruction of courses. Devise strategies to increase instructional capacity.

 

Research and Assessment 
· Collect data and report student outcomes on Bay Area internships. 
· Collaborate with academics to conduct research on Purdue’s work-integrated experiential learning programs. Regularly participate in national and international conferences. Represent Purdue in professional associations. Participate in grant writing to develop resources and enhance the reputation of Purdue’s work-integrated experiential learning programs.
