The Service & Team:
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Principal Occupational Therapist/Occupational Therapy Service Manager to join the Senior Leadership team within the Independence and Wellbeing Service (IWS) for Adult Social Care. The successful candidate will work alongside the Independence and Wellbeing Service Managers for Mid, East and West Cornwall. The role will also work closely with the Principal Social Worker and Practice Assurance Team.
The Independence and Wellbeing Service has responsibility for the following areas under Adult Social Care operations:
- Access (Referrals received to Adult Social Care)
- Community Facing Teams for Mid, East and West Cornwall
- Hospital Discharge Teams and Hospital Facing Teams for Mid, East and West Cornwall
- Occupational Therapy for Mid, East and West Cornwall (including our Visual Rehabilitation Specialists, OTAs and Technical Officers)
The Independence and Wellbeing Service works closely with our other operational and commissioning colleagues across Adult Social Care.
The Role
We are looking for the right candidate to undertake this newly formed role across Occupational Therapy practice assurance and front line practice. The role will line manage our Occupational Therapy Practice Leads, and work in partnership with our Occupational Therapy Team Leaders.
The Principal OT/OT Service Manager will have an extensive knowledge of the responsibilities under the Care Act 2014 which are discharged by our OT and Sensory workforce, alongside relevant housing legislation. The role will support the development of the OT and Sensory workforce, and lead on key projects related to the service area. We are looking for a candidate who can support us in delivering our optimal care programme as well as bringing creative ideas to our service delivery.
The role will also form part of the Leadership team within the Independence and Wellbeing Service and will be required to provide cover and operational support to the service as required.
The role will also have a closely aligned working relationship with our Principal Social Worker to ensure alignment and partnership between our Social Care and Occupational Therapy quality frameworks; as well as leading on workforce development plans for the OT/Sensory workforce.
This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

- HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist.
- Extensive experience within Adult Social Care/ASC OT operations.
- A passion for providing the best outcomes for the people of Cornwall.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and leadership skills.
