Job Title: Human Resources Specialist (HR)

Employment Type: Part-Time (15 hours/week)
Compensation: $45-50/hour
Status: W2 Employment


Position Summary

Verge Therapy is seeking an experienced and strategic Human Resources Specialist to join our growing, mission-driven team. This part-time role will serve as a key advisor to the Leadership Team, overseeing core HR functions including hiring, retention, compensation strategy, benefits administration, compliance, and employee engagement. The ideal candidate is both a strategic thinker and a hands-on practitioner, committed to fostering a compliant, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.


Key Responsibilities
Compensation Support
  • Maintain and develop job descriptions for all roles
  • Provide salary benchmarking and support compensation strategy in partnership with Finance
  • Conduct market research to inform compensation packages
  • Verify accuracy of employee timesheets and reported hours
Benefits Management
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the benefits broker
  • Support annual benefits renewals and enrollment processes
  • Oversee new hire benefit onboarding and status changes and utilize the Employee Navigator platform
  • Address employee inquiries related to benefits, including leave, health plans, and HSA
  • Manage COBRA administration and access
Payroll & HR Technology 
  • Collaborate with Payroll on leave tracking, benefit deductions, and compliance
  • Optimize use of Paylocity for time-off tracking, accruals, and employee engagement tools
  • Support performance management documentation and reporting
  • Facilitate employee engagement surveys and feedback tools
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Advise on HR legal matters, employee rights, and workplace compliance
  • Partner with leadership to update and maintain the employee handbook and HR policies
  • Ensure adherence to labor laws and HR best practices
Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of experience in HR leadership, consulting, or generalist roles
  • Deep knowledge of HR practices, labor law, and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with HR tools (Paylocity, Employee Navigator preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a strategic partner
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field (HR certification preferred)
