Job description

We are open to remote candidates in any time zone across Canada

At Metalab, we bring ideas to reality, designing, building, and shipping some of the world’s most beloved products. Founders at early-stage startups hire us to help build businesses from scratch. Leaders at global enterprises hire us to explore new technologies and launch new products. We’re looking to hire a Director of Finance to lead Metalab’s accounting and financial operations that will ensure accuracy, compliance, and insight while supporting the broader growth of the business

We’re seeking an experienced finance leader to oversee Metalab’s accounting function and lead financial operations. This role will serve as a key partner to company leadership and our parent company’s finance team. You’ll ensure day-to-day finances are accurate, lead the budgeting process, own audit preparation, and help evolve our processes as we scale. Deep understanding of internal controls and reporting standards is essential, whether gained through direct experience in a public company or through working in an audit or advisory capacity.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and manage Metalab’s full-cycle accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate period-end close, reporting, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and deliver financial reports that provide meaningful insights to internal stakeholders and parent company’s leadership team.
  • Communicate financial updates to the company and leadership teams in regular cadence or all hands meetings
  • Own the budgeting process in partnership with department leads, guiding structure, accuracy, and delivery.
  • Lead and manage financial audit preparation and documentation in accordance with public company standards.
  • Serve as a point of contact for financial reviews, audits or due diligence processes as needed.
  • Support payroll, vendor management, and expense processes in collaboration with People Ops and Business Operations.
  • Partner with external accountants and tax advisors to support local and federal compliance requirements.
  • Lead, support, or liaise with internal teams on processes, improvements, and optimizations.
  • Track, report and meet with department leads to ensure accountability and management of  budgets.
  • Partner with project leads to monitor account financial performance against margin targets.
  • Maintain and evolve financial controls and internal processes to ensure compliance, scalability, and accuracy.
  • Act as a financial steward for Metalab—identifying opportunities for efficiency and advising on financial implications of business decisions.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including at least 3 years in a Controller or Director-level role
  • Familiarity with audit processes, internal company controls, and reporting standards.
  • CPA designation preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong experience with NetSuite is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading budgeting and forecasting processes in a lean or high-growth environment.
  • Comfortable in a high-autonomy, hands-on leadership role.
  • Skilled at balancing strategic thinking with execution and daily operational tasks.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner across functions and with external stakeholders.
  • Experience in a digital services, agency, or SaaS environment is a strong asset.

What success looks like:

  • Accurate, timely, and insightful financial reports and month-end close.
  • Clear and collaborative budgeting cycles with functional leads.
  • Financial systems and processes are compliant, efficient, and scalable.
  • Strong working relationships with Tiny’s finance team and cross-functional Metalab teams.
  • Proactive insights and guidance to support business decision-making.
