Summary of Position

The Platform Architect Senior Director is a highly experienced technical leader responsible for defining and driving the architecture of Teladoc Health’s platform. This role is instrumental in ensuring that our platform is scalable, reliable, secure, and aligned with the long-term business and product vision. While this is not a people management role, it is a senior-level position with significant influence across engineering, product, infrastructure, and executive teams. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in distributed systems and platform architecture, a strong understanding of healthcare or other regulated environments, and the ability to translate complex technical strategies into actionable plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the architecture for Teladoc’s core platform capabilities, ensuring scalability, interoperability, and high performance.
  • Guide and develops strategy, direction, and activities necessary to complete major projects, requiring various technical skills that impact the business.
  • Develop and maintain the platform roadmap and strategy, ensuring business goals and objectives are aligned.
  • Develop ideas for improvements to processes, products and services in line with department or business unit strategy.
  • Lead architectural design reviews and contribute to the development of high-impact platform components and services.
  • Provide structure, training, mentorship, and oversight for all architecture.
  • Collaborate with other architects and stakeholders to ensure the platform integrates effectively with other systems and technologies.
  • Use leading-edge and broad knowledge of other disciplines' principles, concepts, practices, and techniques to champion highly complex projects or programs involving multi-disciplinary team participation.
  • Establish and document architecture standards, reusable design patterns, and platform guidelines.
  • Guide teams through complex technical decisions, tradeoffs, and platform modernization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure platform architecture supports HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate third-party technologies and support build vs. buy decision-making.
  • Serve as a technical mentor, raising the architectural bar across engineering teams.
  • Identify and address areas of technical debt, system risk, and platform inefficiencies.
  • Regularly liaise with key internal and external stakeholders, typically members of leadership teams, to enable and execute commercial strategies and achieve business results.
  • Negotiate extremely critical matters with internal leaders or vendors/customers.
  • Influence senior management to adopt a different point of view when appropriate and make decisions that impact business direction.
  • Influence internal and external policymaking efforts, consistent with governing practices and regulations.
  • Advocate for technology changes and assist in the storytelling of future road-mapping and planning.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and mentoring across the business as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate and affirm the company's cultural values in all interactions.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement within the platforms.
  • Work with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for business process optimization, cost reduction, and performance improvement.
  • Participate in the development and execution of the overall business strategy and support strategic planning efforts.
  • Work with the product, business, and engineering teams to build an in-depth knowledge of Teladoc's business processes and technologies to help accelerate critical architectural decision-making.

Qualifications Expected for Position

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted 
  • Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years focused on platform or enterprise architecture.
  • Proven experience architecting scalable, distributed systems in cloud-native environments
  • Strong understanding of microservices, API design, authentication/authorization frameworks, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Deep knowledge of performance optimization, system reliability, and observability in high-scale production systems.
  • Familiarity with platform development in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated environments.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience with healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7) and platform security best practices is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive clarity across teams.
  • Recognized as an influential SME.
  • Advanced knowledge of theories and concepts to evaluate and integrate critical information from different functions to inform the development of strategy and commercial objectives.

The base salary range for this position is $220,000 - $240,000In addition to a base salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements) listed here: Teladoc Health Benefits 2025. Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications. This information is applicable for all full-time positions.
