We are now looking for a

 

Managing Counsel, Energy Storage Business, AFEU   

 

to join our team working for a better future.

 

The position is permanent and remote and will be based in the Finland in Helsinki,

 

What you will be doing

 

The managing counsel will head a team to execute our legal strategy for Wärtsilä’s Energy Storage Business in the AFEU Region.

 

The ideal candidate is a transactional lawyer with experience in infrastructure contracting; energy storage and software experience will be valuable in this role. Prior experience with managing a legal team is a plus.

 

This counsel will join a global team of lawyers within Wärtsilä's Energy Storage Business, a separate reporting segment focused on the integration of energy storage equipment and the development and deployment of optimization storage globally.

 

This role reports to the Vice President, Legal & Compliance, Energy Storage Business.

 

As the Managing Counsel, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Providing legal advice and assistance on sales, lifecycle, project execution, supply chain/strategic purchasing negotiations, and disputes in energy storage in the AFEU Region.
  • Advising on energy storage equipment supply and software licensing contracts, including negotiating, drafting, and addressing commercial and operational risks
  • Managing and consulting with external counsel on disputes and local law challenges.
  • Identifying risks from emerging regulatory changes in key markets and proposing business-ready solutions.
  • Sharing lessons learned with sales colleagues to promote continuous learning.
  • Collaborating with the business to create templates and solutions for new build equipment supply contracts, white labeling, software products, and services.
  • Refining Wärtsilä governance policies to streamline work processes and support the business.
  • Promoting safety and ethics in all aspects of the Energy Storage business.

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • Qualified lawyer in Finland
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in private law firm practice or an in-house corporate legal role.
  • Proficiency in English (oral and written).
  • Experience in construction or utility projects, renewable energy/energy storage, and software licensing.
  • Positive attitude and ability to develop business-minded solutions.
  • Initiative and keen sense of ethics.
  • Negotiation and customer interaction experience, with occasional travel readiness.
  • Solid drafting, presentation, and communication skills in both English.
  • Ability to work across multiple time zones and virtual teams in a multicultural organization.

 

 

(In this role, some travel is required to meet with our customers around the world. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel approximately 20%, even though most of the meetings are held virtually.)
