Summary Description

Under direction of the school principal, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities. Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by MCEA contract.

Job Specific Information

This position is for a teacher in the Extensions Program, a self-contained special education program for students with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Students focus on functional academics (reading, writing, math, social studies, science), community, self-care, and vocational skills. Students are placed due to behaviors such as aggression, property destruction, elopement, or self-injury, and require Behavior Intervention Plans, some involving restraint. Many are non-verbal and use communication systems like picture-exchange or assistive technology. Due to their needs, classes have 4–7 students, 3 paraeducators, and a special educator. Teachers are supported by a psychologist, social worker, behavior support teacher, and program specialist. MCEA 10 Month: The wage range for this position is a salary between $62,558 and $127,334 based on education & experience. Education Training Experience

Bachelors degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university required.Foundation office programs requirements: Secondary school diploma with at least five years of full-time industry experience in the discipline to be taught within the last 10 years, or a bachelors degree in education with demonstrated industry experience is required. Industry licensures and/or industry certification preferred.Certificate License:Meets Maryland state certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
