This role also provides guidance to others to support the building of complex technical capabilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Act as the principal builder of large-scale data processing systems and data lakes, optimized for both computational and storage efficiency on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Design and implement scalable data architectures on GCP using services such as BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, and Cloud Storage.
  • Implement stringent access controls and data encryption using GCP’s security features like IAM, VPC, and Cloud Key Management.
  • Integrate various data sources and manage data workflows using GCP tools like Google Cloud Pub/Sub and Data Fusion.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of data tools like Google Dataform and dbt to determine their viability for the organization.
  • Apply deep technical knowledge on data modeling and best engineering practices.
  • Lead the design, implementation and automation of data pipelines sourcing data from internal and external systems, transforming the data for the optimal needs of various systems and business requirements.
  • Lead robust unit testing to ensure deliverables match the design and provides expertise to support subsequent release testing.
  • Actively adhere to established quality and reliability standards, and ensures team adheres to the same quality and standards working in an Agile development environment.
  • Lead the design of complex physical data models, projects and cloud-based data lake constructs including SQL/NoSQL database systems.
  • Lead the creation of integrated data views based on business or analytics requirements.
  • Research and lead the identification and implementation of process improvements that address complex technology gaps.
  • Build strong knowledge of technology enablers.

Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering management or related and 5 (five) years of experience as a data engineer, systems analyst or related

Must have some work experience with each of the following:

  • Design and implement scalable data architectures on GCP using services such as BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, and Cloud Storage;
  • Implement stringent access controls and data encryption using GCP’s security features like IAM, VPC, and Cloud Key Management;
  • Integrate various data sources and manage data workflows using GCP tools like Google Cloud Pub/Sub and Data Fusion; and
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of data tools like Google Dataform and dbt to determine their viability for the organization.

Primary Location:  United States – Chicago, IL

Organization – Technology

Mon-Fri., 8:30am – 4:45pm, 37.5 hours/week, $150,325 to $185,842 per year, overtime exempt.  This position qualifies for CNA’s employee referral policy program.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
