Job description

Job Description:

This position collaborates with the Physician Contracting Services Director, Legal Counsel, operational leadership, and other Physician Contracting Managers and staff in the development, review, and maintenance and documentation of contractual agreements that are compliant with all applicable federal and state rules and regulations and assure integrity and relevance of contractual agreements between physicians and Intermountain Healthcare. The Contract Manager collaborates with the PCS Director and other PCS Managers in developing and maintaining current and compliant contract templates pertinent to operational activities; supporting and leading unusual, complex, or large contract development projects (including the document writing); and translating legal direction into procedures, templates, and routine communication tools; investigating potential compliance or operational concerns with appropriate documentation and resolution; providing subject matter expertise to PCS staff and operational leaders; executing complex PCS projects as part of implementing physician contracting goals.



Scope

This system-wide position reports to the Director of Physician Contracting and is expected to function with minimal supervision. The incumbent works closely with operational leaders and executives, legal counsel, the AVP of Physician Relations and Medical Affairs, other senior leaders and physicians.

Job Essentials

1. Facilitates the development of contracts within the scope of Physician Contracting Services. Collaborates with Operations and suggests options for potential contract types to meet certain needs and expectations. Collaborates with contracting specialists, operational leaders, legal counsel and others relative to the analysis of potential contracting arrangements. Assists with other contract areas as identified as-needed. For contracts produced by Physician Contracting Services, assures that the required document review and business analysis of contracts are completed prior to execution
2. Leads and executes projects to address contracting needs, including the production of specialized contracts or language to fit specific situations or to address new regulatory or policy requirements, with direction from legal counsel and with appropriate consultation with other internal consultants (for example, compliance, risk management, tax, human resources, etc.). Brings such projects to appropriate resolution with necessary documentation and communication.
3. Coordinates with the Legal Department to assure that all contracts are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and policies governing the contracts produced by the department. Provides technical direction to the PCS team to ensure that legal advice is incorporated into the work of the department.
4. Provides technical direction and guidance to the physician contracting staff to ensure that their delegated assignments are completed such that the product reflects the intent of the parties to the agreement, are in compliance with applicable law / regulation / policy, and terms and conditions appropriate to organizational strategies. Assists in delegating assignments and coordinating work within the Physician Contracting team.
5. Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to others. Serves as access point and expert consultant to operators throughout the system; providing direction, researching specific issues, and advising operators.
6. Participates in regular contracting and business reviews with Operations, legal counsel, physician contracting staff, etc., as deemed appropriate and as needed.
7. Conducts continuous monitoring of the contracts produced by Physician Contracting Services to assure adherence to standards and best practice, providing education, direction, and counseling when necessary.
8. Assists in the development and maintenance of all templates and other documents used in the physician contracting process. Assists with the development and maintenance of the data system used to support the department processes.
9. Supports the Director for Physician Contracting in fulfilling the purpose of Physician Contracting Services and the execution of the strategic and operational plans.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Five years of experience in a role requiring a high level of proficiency in written and verbal communications and financial analysis, as well as an understanding of legal terms and principles and contact law.

Three years of experience writing, analyzing, interpreting or managing contracts.

Experience in a role requiring the demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects and tasks as well as process information and details on a micro level.

Experience in a role requiring a comprehensive understanding of the types of information used in physician contracting development, regulations and legal requirements that impact Physician compensation (Stark Laws for example) and contracts are developed and executed.

Demonstrated attention to detail, sound decision making ability, and a diplomatic demeanor when interfacing with end-users.

Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, and e-mail and scheduling applications.

Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Master's degree

Paralegal certification

Experience working with physician contracts and knowledge of Stark and Anti-Kickback laws and regulations.

Working knowledge of PeopleSoft.
