Job description

Description

Payscale is looking for a leader for its FP&A function.  We are a $200m ARR, highly profitable, SaaS company that needs a dynamic individual to drive financial literacy, rigor, and excellence throughout the company.  This is a role where you will be expected to get your hands dirty and lead by example.  We will need you to be a player-coach, though you will be inheriting an outstanding “#2” who has run FP&A at a smaller company.  You’ll report to the CFO, who came up through the ranks of FP&A, so he knows what great looks like, and the bar will be high.  We are looking for someone with thick skin who can get things done.  If you don’t possess a sense of urgency, drive, and just-get-it-done-ness, this is the wrong role for you. If you are looking for a great environment to help drive a multi-hundred-million-dollar company to a successful financial exit in the next few years, then this will be a great role for you.  We are looking for individuals that know both “finance for finance” AND “finance for the business.”

You will be expected to interview both technically and for fit, and your references will be checked.  While you can be anywhere in the States, please note that the CFO is located in London.  If you have read this far and believe that you have the right combination of attitude, aptitude, drive, and integrity, then let’s talk.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead the development and execution of financial strategies that align with the company's growth objectives
  • Assist the CFO with strategic planning in order to build for the long term and lead Payscale to an outstanding financial exit
  • Hire, develop, coach, mentor a high-performing team, ensuring best-in-class financial operations, data accuracy, forecasting capabilities, and actionable analyses
  • Instill a culture of rigor, discipline, accuracy, consistency, and accountability, both in the FP&A org and across the entire business
  • Drive operational improvements throughout all aspects of the business, across all three financial statements
  • Provide leadership and support in evaluating and executing M&A opportunities, working with external stakeholders and advisors
  • Optimize our financial reporting tool (currently Adaptive Insights) or recommend a new tool to take us through the next stage of our growth
  • Engage in real, robust business partnering with departments outside of Finance to help drive efficiencies, best practices, and optimal risk taking
  • Manage information flow with timely and accurate communications to and from stakeholders.
  • Work with our Controller and Legal team to handle various other business and regulatory operations (insurance, state and federal reports, etc.).
  • All of the traditional aspects of FP&A one would expect:  budgeting, forecasting, reporting, variance anayses, Board meeting prep, etc.

Qualifications

We’d love to talk with you if you have:

  • Multiple years of experience in a relevant environment is more important than any specific amount of time  Relevant experience means SaaS/tech, PE or VC backed, and a high intensity environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.  We do want to see steady progression in your career.
  • Experience in a SaaS business model is a strong positive, but we are ultimately looking for talent and fit
  • Strong understanding of SaaS business models, financial metrics, and growth drivers or the ability to get to that understanding very quickly
  • Proven track record of success in financial leadership, strategic financial planning, and decision-making Experience in developing financial presentations and reports for C-suite executives, Board of Directors, and investors.
  • Expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Highly analytical, with a keen eye for detail and a strategic mindset.
  • We are a Microsoft shop.  Please have excellent Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
