Senior Java Developer (contract)

We’re looking for a talented Java Developer with strong microservices experience to join our Fixed Income Engineering team. In this role, you’ll take ownership of enhancing and supporting complex financial applications used during active trading hours in the EST time zone. You’ll work closely with business and technology stakeholders to design scalable solutions that meet the evolving demands of the fixed income trading landscape.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices using Core Java and Spring frameworks
• Build and enhance mission-critical applications supporting fixed income trading workflows
• Lead efforts to refactor or modernize legacy components for performance and scalability
• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to coding standards
• Analyze and understand business requirements, and translate them into technical specifications
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including traders, business analysts, and other developers to propose and implement innovative solutions
• Write robust unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and system reliability
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and database structures (SQL Server) to support high-throughput trading applications
• Provide production support during EST trading hours and troubleshoot issues in real-time environments
• Contribute to Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and ensure timely delivery of development tasks
• Document system architecture, application workflows, and key business processes
• Monitor application performance and implement proactive improvements
• Participate in DevOps initiatives and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Git and related tools
  
  

Qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience with Core Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs
• Proficiency in designing and building microservices-based architectures
• Solid understanding of SQL Server for database development and optimization
• Experience working in an Agile development environment
• Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Git, and CI/CD practices
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  
  

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Hazelcast or other caching frameworks
• Scripting knowledge in Python or PowerShell
• Understanding of fixed income securities, market/reference data, and electronic trading systems
• Exposure to DevOps practices, including automated build/test/deploy pipelines
• Experience supporting real-time trading applications in production environments
