POSITION TITLE: Software Engineering Manager

Supervised by: Director, Software Development

Supervises: Iteration Managers, Software Engineers, Software Engineer Leads, Application DBAs

FLSA Status: Exempt/Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY.

The Software Engineering Manager oversees the Software Engineering team, ensuring high standards in software development and delivery for the organization's product suite. This role involves managing processes and personnel, leading technical initiatives, and ensuring best practices in software engineering. The Software Engineering Manager fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement while collaborating closely with other departments to deliver high-quality software solutions.

JOB DUTIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS. A qualified individual must be able to perform these essential functions of the job as listed, with or without accommodation.

  1. Team Leadership and Development (*)
    1. Lead and develop a team of Software Engineering professionals to operate efficiently and effectively.
    2. Establish and evolve formal Software Engineering processes in collaboration with senior management.
    3. Supervise the daily activities of Software Engineering team members and assign workload.
    4. Conduct regular team meetings to share best practices and ensure consistent quality across the team.
  2. Software Engineering Strategy (*)
    1. Develop and implement software engineering methodologies that align with the organization's strategic goals.
    2. Oversee Software Engineering metrics, ensuring that industry best practices are maintained.
    3. Drive the implementation of process improvements to increase efficiency and deliver high-quality products.
    4. Develop comprehensive software engineering strategies that align with Enterprise Architecture.
    5. Create and report Software Engineering team Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  3. Collaboration and Communication (*)
    1. Act as the key point of contact for Software Engineering, coordinating resources internally and externally.
    2. Collaborate with Product Management, Quality Assurance, and IT to ensure product requirements are clearly understood and software engineering standards are met.
    3. Communicate regularly with senior management on Software Engineering strategy, project progress, and software engineering metrics.
    4. Partner with internal and external stakeholders, the product team, quality assurance, and enterprise architecture team to deliver high quality software on-time.
  4. Performance Management and Staff Development. (*)
    1. New Hire Onboarding – Prepares new hire 30-60-90-day training plan, and integrates feedback into daily, weekly, and monthly one-on-one meetings. Prepares initial feedback for IT team performance reviews.
    2. Performance Management – Conducts regularly-scheduled meetings with individual team members to review status of their work, clarify role expectations, provide feedback, identify training needs, discuss growth plans, and match up their skill sets with new and challenging projects. Ensures that performance appraisal meetings are conducted at agreed upon intervals (i.e., 90 days, semi- and annual reviews).
    3. Coaching and Mentoring – Creates a learning environment and encourages staff to participate in skill development Supports staff efforts to engage in self-directed training whether company-provided, college coursework, professional activities, or professional certifications.
  5. Support MediQuant’s culture in promoting great performances and positive morale. (*)
    1. Provide strategic leadership around all human resources-related issues.
    2. Manages development team to ensure optimal return-on-investment of staff activities
    3. Champion for elevating employee engagement and developing a high-performing teams.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Computer Science (or related discipline).
  • 5+ years direct Software Engineering team management.
  • 5-7+ years of experience leading testing teams that design and deliver complicated, distributed systems – preferably in agile development environment.
  • Knowledge of system design and architecture.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep and broad experience in multiple Systems Development Lifecycles.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with others, including various levels of management.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process.
  • Azure DevOps and Git Experience
  • Knowledge of Unit, Integration, and Static Code Analysis, evaluation, maintenance and monitoring
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure or opposition.
  • Experience with cloud-native architecture.
  • Prefer knowledge of HIPAA regulations involving PHI and HITECH.

Work Environment. This job operates in a blend of professional office and home office environments. Incumbent will use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work. This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel. Incumbent may occasionally experience some out-of-the-area and overnight travel.

Work Authorization. In compliance with Federal employment laws, MediQuant will verify the identity and employment authorization of each person hired. MediQuant participates in the Federal E-Verify program.

Security Clearance. Must be able to pass all security clearances mandated by various government contracts as well as client hospital/healthcare security requirements. Any employee working on government projects will be required to successfully pass a government background check and receive a Common Access Card (CAC). Additionally, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen and will be subject to a Public Trust security background investigation and must meet requirements to obtain a Department of Defense (DOD) network account.
