UNDERWRITING MANAGER

As an Underwriting Manager at FMH, you will be responsible for leading, developing, and managing a team of Insurance Specialists (IS) while maintaining the mission, vision, and values of FMH and the Underwriting (UW) department. Develops and maintains cost-effective processes and procedures that comply with regulations and company guidelines to enable America’s farmers to clothe, feed, and fuel the world.

REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for this role, you will need the following:

• Experience: Minimum of eight or more years of experience in a crop insurance related and/or underwriting field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Some supervisory experience highly desired. Strong understanding of Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) and Private Products.  Experience with FMH Agency Center, or a similar Crop Insurance processing system is required.
• Education: Associates Degree in related field required (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
• Skills: Excellent vision, verbal and written communication, and leadership skills.  Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an Underwriting Manager FMH, you will be responsible for:

• Monitors Crop Insurance Underwriting functions in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• When necessary, reviews the work of the Insurance Specialists and advises them on complex risks to help them be confident in making underwriting decisions.
• Coordinates cross department collaboration on processes and procedures.
• Builds and maintains relationships with contacts at Risk Management Agency (RMA) and National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS), as well as with our own agents.
• Tracks and monitors metrics to ensure that the team meets and exceeds individual and team performance goals. 
• Collaborates with Underwriting Management Team to determine overall direction of the department.
• Develops and trains new and experienced Insurance Specialists on underwriting standards.
• Serves as the subject matter expert ((SME) on assigned FMH initiatives.
