Description

Taylor Engineering is currently seeking a mid-level Water Resources Engineer to work in any of our Florida locations (Jacksonville, Tampa, or Destin) or our Pennsylvania location (Philadelphia). The Water Resources Engineer will work with our Federal Programs supporting FEMA MT-2 Program - Letter of Map Revisions (LOMRs). This is a nation-wide project and will accomplish the mission through hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, model review, quality control, spatial data development and analysis, map production, and watershed management programs.

Job duties will involve managing and handling tasks associated with floodplain mapping and floodplain management, hydrology and hydraulics, and project reviews associated with FEMA LOMRs.  Working under direct supervision, receiving specific and detailed instructions as to required tasks and expected results. Opportunity to provide oversight, guidance, and direction to a multi-disciplinary team, while upholding quality standards, schedules, and budgets. Tasks will include:

  • Review LOMR case requests to determine if they meet all FEMA criteria justifying a change to published flood hazard data.
  • Review hydrologic and hydraulic models for technical accuracy.
  • Verify compliance with FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) standards and FEMA Guidelines and Specifications.
  • Provide recommendations to the resolution of floodplain mapping issues related to LOMRs.
  • Preparation of all appropriate FEMA documentation and correspondence.
  • Oversight and guidance of third party LOMR preparations.
  • Verbal and written communication skills will be utilized daily to interact directly with the public requesters.

Requirements

A qualified candidate will possess the following:

  • B.S. Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering (or related engineering field), with emphasis in water resources.
  • Experience: 5 - 10 years water resources-related experience.
  • Registration: EIT registration preferred and ability and desire to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Candidate Characteristics  

  • Demonstrated excellent collaboration and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic concepts, including open channel hydraulics, and groundwater processes.
  • Knowledge and experience with ESRI Arc GIS, especially ArcGIS PRO, as well as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, FLO 2D, SWMM, ICPR, MIKE SHE / 11 / HYDRO is preferred.
  • Experience in permitting and/or LOMR preparation and/or review of engineering models is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Energetic, detail-oriented team player.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with remote employees and other offices.
