In one of the world's biggest challenges, we pioneered a new form of artificial intelligence, combining medical knowledge with intelligent technology to empower millions of people to better understand their health. We’re proud to support medical doctors and work with leading health systems and global non-profit organizations. We’re a diversely skilled team representing 50 nationalities, and we’re growing rapidly to achieve our global ambitions for the future of health. This is just the beginning.
About the role
Are you an engineering leader with a track record of making a substantial impact on a dynamic, fast-moving business? Are you equally comfortable digging into product requirements as drilling into architecture and design with development teams? Are you passionate about bringing the best experience to our users and customers? Do you relish supporting and growing people through management? If so, this could be the opportunity for you.
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and support our "Navigation" team who are tasked with building a new navigation product. This product leverages LLM, Ada’s clinical AI, and care navigation capabilities to create a true digital front door for patients and health systems. Additionally, the team owns our existing "Care Navigation" module, navigating users to care based on the outcomes of their symptom assessments. This is an opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies, managing a great team of very skilled and knowledgeable engineers.
You will work closely with product managers, designers, medical experts and architects to analyze requirements, define technical strategy and deliver robust, scalable and seamless experiences for our customers. You'll be empowered to independently make judgement calls to keep the team moving and find elegant solutions to hard problems. You'll directly own the architecture, engineering quality and technical roadmap of your services. You will have a track record delivering complex systems, with excellent people and project management skills, solid communication skills and a strong technical aptitude. Knowledge of regulated healthcare environments would be beneficial too.
We are open to applicants from the UK or Germany and offer a fully remote working model for this opportunity. Of course should you wish to work in a hybrid model, we do have excellent office locations in both central London and Berlin.
What you’ll do
- Manage, lead and grow a team of engineers and quality engineers to ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions.
- Partner with product managers, solution architects and other cross-functional teams to define and implement technical concepts and designs.
- Assess technical risk and identify system design flaws to ensure the reliability of our products.
- Provide architectural and design guidance to ensure scalable and maintainable systems.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative engineering culture that promotes continuous improvement.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in software development, quality and operational excellence.
- Guarantee the quality of deliveries and compliance by contributing to our standards and processes and help document these.
- Interview and recruit top talent to support our engineering team’s growth.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless collaboration and project success.
- Have a servant-leadership mindset, you will lead by example and actively contribute to a positive engineering culture at Ada.
- Bring a “you build it, you run it” mindset, ideally with the ability to support in an on-call capacity.
What you’ll bring
- 3 years' + experience of leading engineering teams (including those in remote locations), inspiring them to greater performance.
- Several years' experience contributing to scalable platform and software architectures, including best-practice design principles.
- Strong background either in backend development or in component-based frontend architectures (e.g. micro frontends).
- Good knowledge of our tech stack: Kotlin, Spring Boot, MongoDB, Kubernetes, Typescript, and common cloud platforms.
- You know and care about engineering practices like continuous integration, automated testing, shared code ownership and operational excellence.
- Experience in healthcare or another regulated industry is a big plus.
- You have a track record of delivery and owning projects end to end: design it, build it and run it.
- Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.
- You have contributed to engineering guidelines and processes and have experience in developing or integrating healthcare solutions.
