Summary of Job Duties:
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) Translational Research Institute (TRI) supports clinical and translational research for faculty at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS). TRI is funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) through the Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (CTSA) program. The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Director are to create, develop, manage, and oversee projects for TRI. The position requires the ability to work independently to implement and lead multiple projects, including start-up, facilitation, tracking and meeting deadlines. The individual serves in an extender role to the TRI Director of Research Programs and Executive Director of TRI in developing and managing new projects and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, health or scientific field plus four years project management experience within a research or community based setting PLUS 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Valid drivers' license with current automobile insurance and reliable car for moderate travel to UAMS in Little Rock, AR and surrounding communities (mileage reimbursed at the current state mileage reimbursement rate) if a state vehicle is not available. Occasional out-of-state travel.

Responsibilities:
- The position requires strong communication (verbal and written), problem solving skills, leadership, and the ability to build effective collaborations with staff and faculty across UAMS, ACH/ACRI, and CAVHS.
- The position also requires effective interactions with national CTSA consortium members and dissemination of information that results from consortia activities.
- The position supervises TRI program management staff supporting institute initiatives and activities.
- Participates in the conceptualization, implementation, tracking, evaluative, and administrative activities for a range of new and developing programs within the TRI.
- Provides administrative support and campus-wide and national coordination and collaboration across a range of TRI areas, including student and faculty development programs, trainings, research support infrastructure, and various funding and career development programs.
- Assists with the improvement of current TRI initiatives through continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Develops and manages 1-3 program staff, and coordinates teams of faculty, including the establishment of lines of communication with key stakeholders in TRI activities across institute components.
- Directs activities, sets goals, establishes tracking and monitoring, and supports the professional development of TRI staff.
- Performs annual evaluations and associated supervisory functions for TRI program staff.
- Oversees the management and coordination of TRI educational activities including regularly occurring educational programs for faculty and students, annual workshop series, and TRI-supported annual conferences as well as other special education events. This includes managing and coordinating of UAMS Continuing Medical Education procedures when applicable, and the evaluation of events.
- Collaborates closely with the Director of Research Programs to strategize on the expansion of existing and development of new programs, standardize processes for all TRI programs, develop SOPs for processes, enhance efficiencies of administering and evaluating programs, and build innovative approaches to new and existing collaborations with other CTSA institutions. Participates as part of a management team to build a strategic plan for TRI programming with the Director and TRI Executive Management.
- Performs administrative and other duties as assigned, including meetings, research, and other functions as needed to support the mission of the institute. Some travel may be required as part of this position.
